How did you find out about Omlet?

Recommended Posts

Its also amazing how many people you talk to who want to have chickens or who know people that have chickens.

That's so true, the last 3 people to collect freecycle things from me have either got hens or want some. sadly none of them yet had eglus, but found them fascinating. One of the chaps is signed up to come on one of my courses.

I went to visit a friend, and she said 'Mum wants to get this hen-house thing, but I've vetoed it because the kids will just bring them in the house all the time'. I don't know why I then went away and Googled for it, because I had never considered keeping chickens and in fact I was scared of birds!

I'd also never imagined you could keep chickens in an ordinary back garden, but once I had read the website I was convinced. I had to wait until I'd moved, but the possibility of chickens was one of the things that helped me decide to buy my current house. No regrets!

PS My friend still hasn't got any, although both her mum and the kids have been to see mine and are trying to persuade her!

I saw an ad in Country life about 4 years ago. It has taken that long and moving to a house with a bigger garden to convince OH (he is very proud of his lawns......) and now the girls are here I wouldn't be without them. Another plus side is that I think the eglu is ideal for lazy chicken keepers (i.e. me!). I looked at wooden hen houses and decided that on balance, it's easier to take a lid off, get the hose out and have no nooks and crannies for wee beasties to hide in..........

Years ago there was an article in a newspaper supplement about an innovative new design of hen house - the Eglu. From there it cropped up from time to time in other magazines, so it was always in the back of our minds, but we weren't thinking of getting chickens at that time. Then it was bookmarked on the computer, so it went on from there really. We looked at the wooden ones, but a visit to see Caz's cube was the decider - the wooden ones were discounted on the spot!

My eldest daughter was chicken mad when she was 9 and was desperate for an eglu - but we were renting a house in Chiswick, London at the time with a brick back yard and a strict 'No Pets' clause, so we had to wait. However, 3 years on we are in Cornwall, in our own house with a big garden, so voila... along came a cube. And all 4 daughters are eggstatic

I have to say everyone in Cornwall seems really chicken friendly which is fantastic - there is even a chicken sitting circuit in case any one needs to go on holiday. And our local postman was admiring the Cube the other day - took down the website name, so I suspect more eglus & cubes will be popping up around us soon :-)

I had worked on hubby for what felt like ages for us to be able to have chickens, we were in the process of talking building our own v buying a ready made wooden one. My Sister popped round and said 'no you want one of these' and found the web site - well obviously I then did want one of those!!!! Hubby was not impressed by price, and that was when we were talking eglu, now we have the cube and 15 chickens - the rest as others have said is history :D !

I did a google search and came up with Omlet. Loved it, but it was about a year before we took the plunge. Best thing we ever did.

I heard (& I can't remember where) that Omlet started up by taking the Eglu design onto Dragons Den, the tv programme that had a board of millionaires & you sell your business idea to them & then they say yes or no to setting up a business with you. Not sure if this is right though. Does anybody else know?

DS saw some hens in a coop at a junior school where the children were on a holiday workshop. He loved them and said he wanted to have some. My eldest is asthmatic and we have never been able to have animals in the house, but I was very nervous of foxes particularly as we back onto fields.

I then read an article in the Church Times, no less, about keeping hens in the garden and the amazing fox-proof eglu and run. I looked at the website and was convinced. We ordered that week and 3 girls arrived in September 2005. :D:D:D

I saw an article in the Saturday Telegraph gardening section comparing different types of hen houses, I had been mulling over rescuing ex-batts for about a year. Fell head over heels with the Eglu, ordered one about a year later  I am not keen on the Eglu run, have built a much bigger one, but I think the house part is brilliant, so easy for a lazy person like me to keep clean :)

An article in the Daily Mail (I think) a couple of years ago. OH was adamant that we were having chickens over his dead body. Got as far as selecting eglu and chickens on website before 'chickening' out.

A couple of years on I just told him I was spending my annual bonus on chickens and an eglu. Last time I looked he was very much alive and fussing over the hens more than I am!
