Unlikely places to find a fellow henkeeper.

Recommended Posts

Have spent the morning at the Royal Hallamshire having a minor op...under local.....nowt serious....and blow me down if the conversation didn't meander round to chickens....and it turned out that the surgeon has nine!

Just wondered if anyone else had encountered a fellow hen keeper under unlikely circumstances?

I've had that recently too - 3 people who have collected freecycle items from me in the last week have either got chooks or want some.

On eof the people who attended my advanced course on Sunday is a Doctor - she took her paperwork to her review in her Omlet bag, and got chatting about chickens with the person reviewing her

I've made loads of friend from circumstances like that.

We had some building work done on our front porch last year and the chap who replaced the guttering kept chickens. I'm sure he spent more time drinking tea and chatting to my chooks than he did sorting the gutters out! Just a good job it was the insurance company paying him rather than me!

I found someone at a funeral once.

And a checkout girl at Tesco too 8)

And the lady who came around from environmental health to check out a noise complaint I made

She saw a Glug on the drainer & said 'Oooo- have you got an Eglu? - I really want one for my hens'

I know of 3 other chicken keepers in N.London, I met 2 of them on Freecycle and the other joined the forum. I know there is somebody really close to where I live because the guy that delivers my chicken supplies from Titmuss told me there is somebody that lives 'just round the corner' but annoyingly he wouldn't give me their address

Two of my friends in my book club have them.

The man who fitted our new boiler's daughter has them.

Someone I work with has some.

and lots and lots of people I know want them!!! It's really common round here...but still 4 months on I'm getting people saying to me "have you got chickens?!!" because their children have spotted them

A lady in the village has them - but I never knew and I only realised when I spotted her 'free range eggs' for sale sign and knocked on the door!

She invited me round the back and introdoced me to her girls all 30 of them!!! Wonderfull. Oddly though she didn't have any eggs for sale as she has broody hens and the other girls are hiding them around the garden and the lady has no idea how old they are when she does find them!

Are all hen owners lovely or is it just coincidence?!

Your boiler has a daughter? What did he fit her with ... oh, I see!

Sorry Crazygal, couldn't resist - I thought I'd get that one in before ANH, she's usually quick off the mark!

I can't think of any unusual ones. I was accosted at the checkout and the woman serving wanted to make sure I bought free range eggs so I said I didn't... she started her spiel and I had to intterupt to say I didn't buy eggs cos I had my girls.

I should think a lot of people round here have chickens. Matthews class has 11 children in it including him and he has them and two of the other children live in farms. I would say that was a fairly high percentage.

I did read it back and think that doesn't read quite right- but was too lazy to correct!
