The Dogmother
Did any of you ever see the David Attenborough 'interview' with a Lyre bird? I saw it ages ago and had forgotten how good it was until I saw this clip again. It even mimics the crew's car alarm
Martin B
What's that all about?
The Dogmother
Did you have your sound turned up?

The Dogmother
If you listen all the way though, the bird mimics a chainsaw in the forest and someone hammering - it's fantastic and sooo clever. Now go back to school!

kannie
Wow! Loved the lyre birds songs - especially the motorised camera shutter and chain saws! We saw real lyre birds in the wild just a couple of weeks ago, in the Dandenongs near Melbourne. One of my nieces pointed out 'chickens' in the path in front of us - and she was nearly right - they were a pair of lyre birds, & they were scratching & pecking just like chickens! Didnt hear any songs from them though.
Paola
The lyre bird was amazing. I have never seen it before. Nature is truly outstanding

The Dogmother
How many Lyre birds can you get in an Eglu! I'd love one!! But they'd drive you mad imitating the barking dog next door and the phone ringing! My folks used to have a starling in their garden, which mimiced their trimphone - they were always rushing in doors to answer it!
Mrs Frugal
But if they mimicked the dogs next door the neighbours might see how annoying it is !
