Couperwife
I know, I know, its still August But I've had an idea dont know if it will work, or how it would work, but as we do the super book club... How about we do a christmas Knit along and swap at the end as presents for each other? it would have to be simple (like a scarf or something) with as detailed a pattern as you would like to do (I know that some are super knitters and some are new knitters - was that diplomatic enough ) (I would be willing to "cast on" if anyone wanted to join in and couldnt cast on ) anyone interested? cathy x ok, so people who want to join in....(i've just taken this off the thread, so anyone wanting to "escape" shout Anyone can make anything (ooooh, this is soooo exciting ) Couperwife (me ) Lizinsa snowy Howells Craftyhunnypie Helly Welly Emily95 Ubereglu A chickychickychick-ENN!! Do we all have to make scarves, I get bored making them but have made felted skirts and bags etc!

Snowy
I think it's a lovely idea - but for those that do other crafts, maybe it could be opened up to any handmade gift?

ubereglu
Sounds a good idea! I'm going to knit my sister a shrug for Christmas! Can it be any craft though, as I'm not very quick at knitting!
Couperwife
I love the idea of lots of different presents its lovely that so many people want to join in I think that we should all make our present and I will collect names and addresses at the beginning of December. then forward the name and address to the "santa". that way, no one knows who they are making for or who is making for them. does this make sense I want everyone to have enough time to make what they are making cathy x
craftyhunnypie
Are we allowed to say afterwards what we have received though? As people will then know where their handmade things ended up! I best decide what I'm making then - but I might not be able to stop at one thing..as I love making things and also giving! Emma.x
Christian
Who will be the Santa though? HO HO HO!

Couperwife
I think that we should take photos on Christmas morning of us opening and "adoring" our presents Im happy to be chief Elf and direct people where to send their gift is there anything else? (I told you that I didnt know how this was going to happen but im willing to have a go ) cathy x
Snowy
Sounds good - you might want to start some kind of formal list at the beginning of everyone taking part. People can post if they want to join then you can add them to the list. Nearer the time address details can be given. Or something like that
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Count me in for concocting something. This idea rocks. I'm being dim about Cathy's 'willing to cast on' comment. Cathy, do you mean you will physically cast on and off so someone can do the knitting stitches in the middle (it took me ages to learn to cast on and off for knitting!), or was it a metaphor for 'casting on' names of participants into a list? Yours probably over-ruminatingly, Anna x

Or something like that great idea snowy right people roll up, roll up, join the secret santa list here. add your name if you are wanting to join the present list I'll add a list the the original post (I assume I can do that ) the reference to the casting on was for Emma (the herd) who is great at knitting but unfortunately the casting on and off is a little "untaught" so to encourage people to join in I thought i'd offer cathy x
Helen&Lee
Can I join this? The only thing is my knitting is woeful but I do make cards, I'm wondering if I could make a batch of 10 or so as a present.? Here are some samples - Now, if you do not think they would be suitable for a swap just let me know - I really won't be offended. Aaww, Thanks - if only I could draw like that! They are rubber stamps by Pennyblack, I have quite a few chicken ones (surprise surprise ) and thought I could make a batch of cards around these.....
