clootie
Please tell me it isn't so. I've been sitting here watching 4 squirrels running backwards and forwards from the walnut tree with walnuts clamped in their jaws to their hiding places to stash for the winter. What does this mean? Hopefully we've still got some nice, warm evenings to come before the leaves start falling? Haven't we?
Ain't Nobody Here
Wouldn't count on it . Although we've had the first warm, dry weather for weeks yesterday and today - I even got some washing on the line .

Cinnamon
It is so hot & sticky here today, but horribly cloudy. It certainly feels like we are in for an end of summer storm. Then again, did summer ever actually start?

Tessa the Duchess
I live near a large stand of Horsechestnut trees, and today I noticed lots of conkers on the ground, always a sign of Autumn for me We really haven't had any kind of a summer this year Tessa
Angels4
Monday is our "Labor Day" In the US that signifies the official end of summer. Not that we would notice, this summer was horrible.
Cooks
Hubby and me only said last night that we've had no summer to speak of have we, but last years wasn't anything special either if I remember correctly. They are certainly not like the summers I remember growing up, my mum friend an egg on the pavement to show us why we needed to wear shoes one summer, it was that hot. And the winters back then were better aswell, proper snow, not like the flimsy amount we get now...
Paola
Funny you should bring this topic up. Was out walking the dog a couple of days ago and found some yellow fallen leaves It looked like autumn
Cate in NZ
There's a definite sense of the season's changing here as well......the interminable rain finally stopped about 4 days ago and the sun and blue skies have put in an appearance. Daffodils are blooming, so are the camellias and I have tiny little oranges on my tree . I think that Spring is on it's way After back to back winters and a lousy UK summer last year I really need to see some sun. That said it sounds like you've all now had 2 lousy summers on a trot . Guest
Daffodils in NZ? I really hadn't thought of that. Don't know why it surprises me, but it does!
Cate in NZ
Daffodils in NZ? I really hadn't thought of that. Don't know why it surprises me, but it does! We had daffodil day yesterday . It's an annual cancer charity thing, when everyone buys a daffodil and wears it on their lapel . So far we seem to have all the usual UK flora & fauna.....and quite a few other new, more tropical, species too
Angels4
Every Spring I plant daffies on my moms grave. She died of cancer 15 years ago June.
KimmyCustard
I find little oak trees sprouting up everywhere in my garden, its the pigging squirrel that lives in a birch 2 doors away, Ive seen him burying the acorns in Autumn. He also comes in and empties the birds nuts from their feeder as well!
Janty
Sorry to be all gloomy but Summer ends in our house the day we go back to school after the break. I have had to write the last sentence twice as I have a he/she chicken pecking my foot and it's most off-putting!
Christian
I have lights on in the kitchen as it is so dark I can't see! Yesterday was lovely, what happened??
Egluntyne
Dark here too Christian. Raining miserably too, although it was lovely this am. I thought about getting the strimmer out. I didn't get any further than thinking about it unfortunately.
clootie
So I decided to repaint the chook house - just finished the roof and the heavens opened - I haven't looked yet but I fear there is a new paint technique waiting for me. The dribble look?
