Is it a sign of my age or just lack of interest, that I'm increasingly hearing or seeing "famous" celebrities on the news that I have never heard of or don't recognise .

Who is that woman (can't even remember her name) who got in trouble for posing with a flick knife?

Watched 10 mins of that airport reality thing and didn't recognise anyone..... I actually thought it was just supposed to be reality program for the public.....

I've given up reading the free papers (London Lite, Metro etc) because I've never heard of most of the people in them!

In my view, to be a celebrity you actually need to have done something remarkable. Most of today's 'celebrities' appear to be known just for being a celebrity and not actually doing anything.

At the grand old age of 43, the number of celebrities I don't recognise is much greater than the number I do. No idea who most of the bright young things are.

 

Then again, only the other day I said to our Chief Exec "Computer says no" and this cultural reference was clearly entirely lost on him, so at least I'm not that old

Hey I went to a FESTIVAL this summer - alright it was local and I drove there and I most certainly didn't do anything as stupid as camping but hey I WENT TO A FESTIVAL!

 

I only know the "computer says no" thing from hearing the kids say it. I didn't know where it came from until I left the drivel on the other night whilst I played tetris - actually it was about the only vaguely funny sketch in the whole programme!

 

I listen to Radio 2 so I'm hardly on the pulse of music either -although they do play a lot of new stuff on there but none of the more radical new stuff. But then again when I was at V I knew a lot of bands and their numbers so I guess R2 are now hip and trendy!

 

As for celbrities - I DONT watch trendy programmes, I DON'T read magazines and I DON'T read any tabloids so I havn't a clue who most of them are!

NO! you are not old I often ask my youngest 2 children who these so called celebrities are and a lot of the time they don't know who they are (my youngest children are 14 and 22 Yes, ok I am old)

I said to my ES the other day that I had no idea who was no 1 in the chart now. He actually said he didn't know either now that Top of the Pops has finished!

 

I listen to Radio 2 as well so know some of the nicer new songs but as for the rest - no idea. I also didn't know a lot of the Strictly people either. I do now though

My 10.5 year old acts more grow up than me sometimes, but then she can't wait until she's old enough to come to gigs with us - she'd love to go to Global Gathering.

Personally, I think that not recognising 'celebrities' isn't a sign of getting old but more a sign that I really couldn't care less who they are and what I do with my life and the people in it are much more interesting to me than they are.

 

I'm not sure how that makes me sound but I really don't give much thought to 'names' - I don't need them.

I'm 45, I don't read the tabloids or anything else that often, don't read mags and don't watch that sort of TV either, I like Strictly but that's more about the dancing than the 'celebs'.

 

The other thing that bugs me is the honours lists these days, you can get a knighthood for doing not very much at all. Ian Botham was on TV yesterday and he is a sir now for all the charity work he does and the money he has raised and well done to him he's a good man, but today whole teams get OBE's or whatever they get which makes them a bit worthless I think

Good luck with the bidding, from a fellow eglu fleabayer! We've "won" two at different times - the first one we picked up on a weekend which had been planned for months ( a reunion with DH's college class - they found it highly amusing that the car was full of chook house!! ) and the other was about 5 miles from our own home, as the estate agents say "location, location, location!" Am now awaiting 3 ex-batts to take up residence!

 

I have moments of feeling very old eg when surrounded by my children's friends & realising that they are not babies any more - and of course not having a clue what's in the charts! I can also feel quite young when at family reunions on DH's side. He's 19 years older than me & his eldest sister is 65+ & her DH is rising 70 (my mum is only 62 & my nan is 85!).

 

Not sure if I felt very old or very young when eldest step daughter announced she was expecting & I was to become a granny before my 38th birthday (She is married and 30 yrs old )

You are only as old as you feel which in my case is prehistoric! Youngest son (18) and friends came in and began asking about Glastonbury fesitival which they knew I had been to, then found out it was in the 70's and the organisers gave you a pint of milk when you arrived

 

We still go to festivals except now we go to ones with nice toilets and showers, boys and friends come along and I go back to the VW camper before they do

I may have been 20 years younger than the bloke I was sat next to at the Paul Weller concert last night BUT crikey my back aches this morning from not sitting properly!!!

 

Oh and at Pole Dancing today she asked what music we would like - I don't like ANY of the music she plays (dance music) So I said I'd like something "a bit more radio 2" All the other 40 year old women looked at me aghast!

same here! at 44 i have always had trouble remembering real peoples names i can't be bothered to even care if i remember celebs names!

 

i listen to local radio, like lots of songs and sing along, but ask me who sings them lol rubbish at the pub quiz if theres a music question !
