Omletina Kyckling Posted December 14, 2008 Share Posted December 14, 2008 I'm up late and feeling really sad. My uncle died at around midnight after a heart attack on Friday. He was waiting for a bypass operation and then had a heart attack. He'd always been so healthy so it was a shock to me. He was my mum's only sibling and both of them were adopted so I think she's feeling really sad and a bit alone as there's "Ooops, word censored!"ody left apart from me and my brother and dad. My uncle had been married for more than 60 years so his wife must feel bereft as she's left on her own (and was older than him too!) I didn't see that much of him but always really liked him so I just feel so sad. I was surprised by how upset I felt when mum rang me. I just wish I were closer to home so I was there for her. Joojoo Posted December 14, 2008 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Oh I'm so sorry to hear your sad news It must have come as an awful shock and so close to Christmas too which always seems to make it so much more poignant although it shouldn't. Can you go and visit your Mum? Perhaps you would feel a bit better if you could spend some time with her and satisfy yourself that she is ok. My Uncle died a few years ago and he had been married to my Aunty for 65 years - that's a lifetime together. I can't imagine what it must feel like to lose someone after that length of time. Absolutely heartbreaking Never worry about coming on here to share your troubles - that's what we are here for. Big hugs coming your way. Omletina Kyckling Posted December 14, 2008 Author Share Posted December 14, 2008 Thanks everyone for your kind words. I was in a bit of a state when I wrote the message last night but today I'm ok. I've spoken to mum a few times and she's doing really well. She is at her sister-in-law's house at the moment, helping her out. Mum and her brother were both adopted, although separately, and not blood related, but I don't think it makes any difference to the bond that is there. For many, many years they hardly spoke (my grandma twisted things to her advantage to make this happen) but had got closer over the years. I think mum is just so relieved that she spoke to him on the 'phone yesterday in the hospital (don't think anybody thought he was actually going to die so she was going to visit him this morning so hadn't rushed over yesterday) Anyway, thanks a lot, it's great knowing you are all out there thinking about us/supporting us.
