Alis girls
Usually after taking Christmas decorations down and cleaning house I treat myself (OH take note ) to some daffs to brighten the place up and remind me of spring (how sad am I?) This yr I havent seen a single daff in shops!! is there a shortage? they are normally in shops by Jan. I have some on allotment but only just breaking soil. Is there a world shortage I had to buy tulips shock horror! Good tip to stop tulips drooping put a2p or 1p in the water - really works! If anyones seen some let me know. jlo
I bought my mom some daffs from Sainsbury's in Basingstoke yesterday as they are her very favourite flowers. At the moment, they look more like thick green twigs but I am hopeful that they will bring some more cheer soon!

Gamebird
This is the time of year for Snowdrops. Daffodils are for February and March. But then Cadbury's Cream Eggs are in the shops in December so what do I know!
Valkyrie
Ah, but the ones in the shops are usually forced unless they come from tropical Devon and Cornwall! Outside my snowdrops are just coming into flower. In Old Basing I do know there are a bunch of really early mini daffs outside a bungalow - around end of Jan (or at least there used to be). chickencam
I saw a few in a local greengrocer come nursery on Saturday. They are one of my favourite flowers too, the first ray of sunshine after the darkness of winter We seem to have lost our snowdrops under too much manure and other soil conditioners that we have put on the garden over the last few years. We have terrible clay soil at home, and very sandy soil on out allotment just 1 mile away, we could do with mixing the 2. The daffodils in the pots and in the soil are about an inch and a half high at the moment, we usually get the first tiny ones flowering in the second or third week in February. Guest
We have a lovely little park round from the house, and all the daffs are starting to grow through the grass. Lovely! Nothing nicer than a sea of yellow daffs to brighten up the cold Jan/Feb days.

I missed taking a pic of the earliest one to bloom, but this one made up for it, and several more have followed, with loads of buds on show! Hope this snow doesn't finish them off....
