Omletina Kyckling
I thought you might want to have a go at this little English test on the BBC website - it's in response to people complaining about dropping standards - next week they are doing a maths one. There are only 20 questions. I got 20 so I'm a happy bunny http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4246472.stm

Old Speckled Hen
20, but I come from an age when one did much manipulation of the english language at school; it's become second nature. People putting ONLY in the wrong place in a sentence is my particular bugbear! I read somewhere that a council or some such was considering barring the apostrophe from all its publications because it was fed up getting berated for wrong usage. I know there are more important things in the world but it's still annoying.
laurmurf
I write policies for a local government employer; nothing, BUT NOTHING, incenses me more than when my beautifully grammatical writing is stripped of necesary apostrophes and commas and decorated with superfluous ones! I'm campaigning internally for the Plain English campaign too!
Ziggy
18.... not bad for a foreigner Though as I studied english at uni, I really should have had 20... ah well, that was a long, long time ago, and I am now more used to toddler talk... 'Mummy, look at choo-choo'... 'Mummy, my crying because...'... it's amazing how one can learn to talk like one's children, instead of the other round... I've always found mistakes endearing in casual circumstances... the way my kids talk and write, the way my foreign friends talk, and so on, shows partly who they are, how they interpret things, I find it immensely sweet... but I do like proper English in written publications... Ana's flock
20, but I'm a foreigner... and it's a written test. It would have been a different result entirely if I'd had to 'speak' it.
