Shall I stick them in the pan with some soil and they can grow as they cook!

One Man Banned
started off here as quite hot sunshine but its quite cloudy now and the winds picking up again Still did a bit of gardening just now!
Egluntyne
Gorgeous day here in Sheffield. I am very pleased with myself as I have just added a converter and extension to my second Eglu, and it went together quite easily. Hens delighted with extra room and can free range within the area provided by the new netting. With the outlay so far, I will have to sell eggs for £9.50 a half doz before I break even. Who cares.....the hens are a delight.

bunee1
Have only just read this thread so i'm catching up...i too love this time of year only a few weeks till my fav pumpkin festival oooo jeans wooly socks and a chunky jumper chuck those sandals in the back of the cupboard also this reminds me of my fav hymn we used to sing at school Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled And the silk in a chestnut shell Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled All these things I love so well (Chorus) So I mustn't forget No, I mustn't forget To say a great big thank you No, I mustn't forget. Clouds that look like familiar faces And winter's moon with frosted rings Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces And the milkman sings. Whipped–up spray that is rainbow–scattered And a swallow curving in the sky Shoes go comfy though they're worn out and they're battered And the taste of apple pie. Scent of gardens when the rain's been falling And a minnow darting down a stream Picked–up engine that's been stuttering and stalling And a win for my home team. Anyone remember that one? chelsea
dont know that one, but the words are lovely! I cant wait for halloween, just had a delivery of scarey bits to decorate our frontdoor and porch (tombstones with flashing eye ghouls) and dangley spiders and bats for our trick n treaters. We dont have kids ourselves, but both daft enough to dress up and decorate to please us and others
Karen & co.
I love that harvest song , the children sing it at our primary school, and even those who are struggling for the words all join in for the chorus karen x
theherd123
Oh harvest songs! That takes me back to when i taught in primary!! "Cauliflowers fluffy & cabbages green, Strawberries sweeter than any ive seen Brown potatoes & onions white, all grow steadily by day & night, The apples are ripe the plums are red, the broad beans are sleeping in a blankety bed!" I just love that song!!! he he he
cabbagepatch
most definitely my fave time of year, the dreaded muggy days of late summer over, a nip in the early morning air, dew, the smell of smoke fire, the leaves turning and lighting the fire.....all snuggled up for the evening. Bliss
Christian
Yay!!! its cold this morning, just lit the open fire (just moved to a house in the country and any excuse to light it), much to the annoyance of the other half - how many logs??????. Chris, our postie, said that it gets really cold here in the winter and the snow blows over from Salisbury Plain. Can't wait to be snowed in, all cuddled up with the fire!!!! Just hope the girls will be ok, as its our first winter (well nearly) together. Christian x x x
One Man Banned
Yay!!! its cold this morning, just lit the open fire (just moved to a house in the country and any excuse to light it) I am now soo Jealous. To get the real fire effect I have to light the Chimnea in the garden - and logs aren't such a good idea there!!
Cinnamon
Ever thought about getting one of those real open fire screen savers,Andrew? I hear they are very good
One Man Banned
I have got a really good new gas fire that we bought when we renovated the house and it is very effective and the coals "burn" and glow really nicely but it's not the same is it. Couldn't replace the screensaver on the laptop - it's the laydees! and the Pc has a LOVELY pic Our favourite place in the world - that's where I took Joe for his 30th last November, Burgh Island! AnnieP
Looks gorgeous Andrew! W have an open fire, but don't use it enough... I'll find a picture to make you drool..... Might go out and get some coal for tomorrow night......
Christian
Annie it looks fab!!!!! Always dreamed of living in the country, open fires and chickens and now have it all!!!! I'm cabin crew (short haul) and other half is long haul, but we still get time to enjoy the country life. Just managed to go part time so only 14-15 days work a month. Now need to earn a little extra ££££, so am making jam like a lunatic to hopefully sell on. Would love to give up work permanently and sell jams, jellies and cakes etc to a farm shop, but probably unable to earn a living that way!!!! No,it's not the same We had one of those, which we loved but last September our Carbonmonoxide detector kept going off whenever we lit it. So out it came,& in went a log burner which is a bit better as you can actually see flames (real ones!) inside Lovely picture - is Burgh Island in the UK somewhere - I don't think I have heard of it before? Is that a hotel on the cliff? It looks very Art Deco?
Mrs Frugal
We've got a gas flame effect fire too Andrew. It does the job but without the atmosphere that a real one would give. We can't have one in this house but the gas one is better than nothing and warms the room up in no time and the flames do look nice and cosy on a cold winters day without the hassle that a real one has ! It looks very Art Deco? [/color] http://www.burghisland.com/ It's not far from Plymouth but it seems like a million miles away Very eagle eyed of you to spot the Art Deco. It's cut off twice a day by the tides and it's 30's Art Deco through and through, that's why we love it. GMTV used it as their "InchLoss Island" a few years ago Poirot has been set there a few times with the most notable being Evil Under The Sun, written by Agatha at the hotel and then filmed there years later! Ahh...... (we have considered getting married (civil partnership) there in 2008!)
