feemcg
Been at the hospital since 5am and they've kept her in. She came back from Gran Canaria last Saturday with large red dots on the soles of her feet and up to her calf on the left leg. It continued to spread up her legs and when it was up to her knees by Wednesday, the dots were much bigger and non-blanching. I was starting to get concerned so asked the doc to have a look, and he took a full blood count. He didn't know what it was, but agreed the non-blanching appearance was worrying. She felt fine otherwise.....said she'd had a mild headache off and on. Blood came back with normal platelets but raised white cells. She went out last night (upset that she had to wear black tights under her skirt ), came in at 3 (she's 18) and shouted me down the stairs......in a matter of hours the rash had spread to the top of her thighs on both legs, some of the purply red patches joining up into dotted lines. Anyway she's had umpteen bloods done, still waiting for some of them to come back but they need to keep her in to keep an eye on her kidneys. She has Henoch Schonlein Purpura....anyone have any experience of this?? (I'd heard of it a long time ago, as a differential diagnosis for meningitis) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henoch-Sch%C3%B6nlein_purpura#Signs_and_symptoms

feemcg
Its an autoimmune thing which means she's probably reacting to another infection she's had...she gets frequent bouts of tonsilitis, but could be an insect bite from holiday too I think. Away for a wee sleep before I go back up.

feemcg
Aww...thanks everyone, had a sleep...I'll get ready and go back up, her dad went up 3-4 (not that he would phone and give me an update ). Apparently we need to wait and see if Emma gets pains in her joints, or if it affects her kidneys....then she might need some steroids. Guest
You poor things. I do know what it is like - my daughter is twenty and has Crohn's disease which means that she has had several stays in hospital over the years. It is exhausting for the Mum - you would so much prefer it is it was you that was unwell! Hope they sort out some kind of treatment for her soon, and that she gets home quickly.... Nutmeg
Very best wishes to your Daughter for a speedy recovery. I had Purpura when I was a child which also started on my feet. When I was taken to the Doctors, they were all quite excited as they said they hardly ever had cases of it and could they take photographs of my feet! I don't remember if I felt unwell, but I know I had to have blood tests, time off school and rest. My mum would remember more details, if you would like more information, I could ask her. Best wishes to you all.
freddie
Had it, only mildly; put me off my feet for a while. Leaves you really knackered for a fair time, she'll need to take it easy, Looks a bit like small cigarette burns? best to you all, lots of rest, and good food.
