Ain't Nobody Here

We're all planning walk in runs! Let's share!

Recommended Posts

You're telling me! it was the Haynes manual of walk in run dreams, I know exactly how to build it now.

Trouble is it is three times the size it was at the start so its back to B&Q

 If all us Omleteers added up the chicken related £££££ we have spent in B&Q how much do you think we would of spent??

I have had the run dream too, although Brad Pitt was building mine in my dream :D

So my WIR has progressed to slabs delivered this week and we will start laying next weekend.

Crikey, better move the (green eglu) and run!

Gulp :!: My quote has just come in - its £382.50 for the run (12 ft by 7 ft) but with the extra bits and bobs like sloping roof, guttering, delivery, perches installation etc its over £650

I've just texted hubby (he's on business trip to Rome - I'm not  at all).

Not sure what he's going to think about that. Might have to sell one of the kids I think :lol:

Omg :eh: thats alot.We got our wood from wicks good thick stuff and my other half works on the roads he brings home slabs and the galvinised steel wire for nothing.Im very lucky hes built me 2 big runs for next to nothing. But he said if you can find a yard with broken wire in (not good enought for road works but perfect for chicken runs)he said they may give it to you or charge you very little as its sitting in there skip and it cost them to get rid of it.£650 tho id think id be feeling :vom: Let us know how you get on.

:? It's a bit of a shock when you actually get the quote, isn't it? You can fool yourself into thinking it won't cost much till you see it in print :( .

Mine's ended up at £427 :? . I persuaded myself it was worth getting the extras as you'd just have to try to fit them yourself anyway (costing time, effort & money).

Good luck with the OH  . (And with selling one of the kids - I sold an egg skelter and a converter, never thought of a kid  .)

***ahem, coughs loudly to attract attention of those on rodent ramble (Sorry ANH, I'm sure he's lovely!)!!!***

Ladies & Gentlepeeps, I proudly present my brand spanking new Walk in run....Hurrah :clap::clap: Also starring the lovely (cube lilac) Liberace and (cube orange) Jasper

and co-starring the Battie's very own (blue eglu) Smurf in it's new location

Huge round of applause please for DH; the architect, foreman and master builder :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Thank you for your attention, the laydees are all fairly happy with their new abode, the Orpies are so daft they can't work out where the door is most of the time & create blue murder to get out at every available opportunity, and I did have to evict the chooks from the Smurf this evening & put the Batties in in their place (chooks used to live in that position in (green eglu) then (cube orange) until Thursday, so no real surprise!!), they were trying to roost under a bench in the position that Smurf was in until this morning!! Bless them, they'd been in & out of the (blue eglu) all day & I thought they'd have twigged...I was wrong!!

In case you hadn't cottoned on, the Batties are now free-ranging with all the others with just a few small spats on all sides! Will post an update on an ex-batt thread....

We have (cube lilac) on wheels which came with the Orpies & they make such a kerfuffle about going up the ladder that we thought maybe, as we were planning a big run any way, we'd just get the cube on the ground, then anyone who didn't feel up to the fluttery climb could just toddle in at ground level - also the Batties may appreciate not being introduced to the ladder. It also meant it would be easier to position them on the same end & not have an conflicting door catches/egg ports etc.

Hope that makes sense :anxious: it did to us & works beautifully.

Have just showed DH this thread & he's like smug cat with the cream  !!

Bless him, he has done a good job! I love the shape of your run, what is the roof made from?

The roof is 2 x 2 inch weldmesh "bowed" over the run to raise the level so I can stand up straight - between the rafters at least, oh dear I expect many a headache on them :anxious: !!! - with 6 x 3m long sheets of corrugated plastic from Homebase strapped on with long luggage straps from Halfords .

His poor hands are a picture of cuts & blood blisters, but he loves his little feathered monsters as much as me if the truth be told :shh::wink: !

Sha

Your run look really lovely - well done.

Am also planning a WIR but unfortunately OH is about as useful as a chocolate teapot

He will have to learn quick if he wants his dinner at night :)

sue

Sue, you'll have to bring him over for lessons, or get your lovely boys to help!

Congratulations to Mr Wild Mum - fantastic run. :D

My OH is quite capable of doing DIY, its just that he's absolutely awful to be with whilst he's doing it :lol: He's not got the time either so I'd be waiting until I'm 80 before he'd get around to it.

Well when I spoke to hubby he didn't diss the quote straight away. In fact he said that if we're going to do it its worth doing it properly  We're going to have a chat when he's back from his trip.
