A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Add two cans of mushy peas, a can of kidney beans, a good slug of dried green lentils and a good slug of dried brown rice to the slow cooker. Chop a slab of paneer (Indian cheese) into cubes and add that. Boil a kettle and mix the hot water with three heaped tablespoons of curry paste. I use a red tikka paste. Add that too and leave the slow cooker to do its thing. Paneer is rubbish raw but I love the meaty chewiness of it and how it absorbs flavours. This is a lovely warming slop of a dish. It always goes really fast in my house!
Patricia W
sounds lovely - where can I get paneer? Tricia
SAB
I managed to get Paneer in Tesco recently.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I've seen it in big Tescos and big Asdas - especially those in urban environments or with sizeable Indian/Pakistani communities. Or else cornershop supermarkets - especially ones run by Asians - the kind of ethnic minimart that does big packs of spices and the like. They keep it in the fridges. I prefer to get mine from little shops - it's normally a bit better. More trad. It's so fine. It's a little bit like Halloumi (Greek cheese) but without the salt and herbs in it - cooks up wonderfully!
Egluntyne
I like the sound of this. It will be on the menu at Egluntine Towers this week. ** Update. Made this today, and very nice it was too. I added 1/2 a tin of chopped tomatoes as they needed using up and a handful of coriander at the end for the same reason, and it was lovely. It made enough to feed the Highland Light Infantry. BeckyBoo
Oh my goodness! Mushy peas, lentils, kidney beans AND curry? All in one pot? I make stews like this, just chuck in tins of pulses or packets of beans, but my goodness me I can only do it when I haven't got to be in close proximity to anyone the next day - very good for your guts this dish! Not good for anyone that has to sit next to you!! BeckyBoo
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Water to cover the ingredients. Three to four hours minimum I would guess...

Egluntyne
It does sound tasty, though. It is absolutely divine. Real comfort food. I have made it twice now. - I quartered the ingredients second time round and it still made heaps. I haven't particularly noticed any musical after effects. fluffyknickers
I bought paneer to make this dish and just need some mushy peas. Although the paneer is probably off now as had it so long
