Margaret
Thank you all so much for last night, when I found Tallulah dead in the Eglu. Have spoken to Omlet this morning but they cant deliver 2 new Chooks until 29th May!! and I cant get the time off work.. Also that will mean leaving Lavender on her own and she is so distressed pacing up and down and making lots of noise. She was left all day with the body, poor thing. She is on her own as we are all at work, Hubby has offered to drive to Omlet HQ ( 5hour round trip) on Saturday, if they will open up!! What a terrible start, wish I hadnt started, Daughter doesnt want Lavender to go back but dont have space or time for Introductions.. Help...any advice please. Margaret. kerryegg
Sorry I can't offer any advice but hope things work out o.k. I was lucky just to have one night of bullying when my 2 Omlet hens arrived. I assummed this was because one was obviously much older. I would think at this stage introducing 2 more would work for you. Could you get some earlier from a local supplier? Anyway, all best wishes for whatever you decide.
Willow
Hi Margaret What a horrible start. Are Omlet taking Lavender away on the 29th ? Would they be able to deliver 2 chhickens sooner if they didn't have to take one away ? Since you wouldn't be introducing chickens to an established flock I wouldn't worry too much about it. You could try putting a peckablock into the run to occupy Lavender ? Hope it sorts itself out soon. Tricia
Patricia W
I think I'd try to get two more hens locally. As has already been said, your remaining hen is still new so would probably accept two other new ones. Maybe Omlet can refund the cost of the one who died instead of coming to you on the 29th - which I agree is such a long way away. Where do you live - someone may know of a chicken breeder nearby you could contact. Tricia
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, try to get 2 more girls locally. Where do you live? I'm sure there will be an Omleteer who can recommend a breeder. Please don't give up - chicken keeping is a joy when things go well . As I said before, you've just been terribly unlucky . PS what are you doing on here if you're supposed to be at work . Tweety
I agree with the others - try to get 2 more chickens from a local breeder this weekend. Omlet have a list of recommended breeders, but if there is no-one local to you I could have a look in the Practical Poultry Breeders Directory for you. As others have said, introductions might not be too much of a problem as Lavender is a new girl herself, so don't let that put you off. Patricia W
I think from another post that you live in Kent. We have Kentish Omleteers so I'm sure one will be along soon. If not, write another post asking for chicken breeders in Kent. Good luck- it will get better. You've had a most unusual introduction to chicken keeping! Budgies
Margaret, what a rotten start to chicken keeping you're having. If you ARE in Kent, Ben at Hen House Poultry is fantastic. It's on the list of recommended breeders, give him a call. You will need to find some wee pals for Lavender before 29th in my opinion, a single chook will pine. Margaret
Just got back from Muggles farm, near Borough Green, (abandoned Work) thank God for good boss!! Mable is now with Lavender, bit of pecking going on not to bad, Mable is just 2 weeks older and look the same but for a few white feathers, sitting guard as have no other alternative than to let them be together and as Lavender has only been home alone for 1 day hopefully it will be ok, bit of moaning but thats all, hust going to bribe them with treats until bed time. Thank you all for your support. Margaret. xx
Tweety
Glad to hear that Lavender has got a lovely friend and I hope that you can now enjoy having chooks after your unfortunate introduction to life with chickens!

Willow
That's good news ! I checked in to see if you'd had any joy getting a new date. PS what are you doing on here if you're supposed to be at work Err I couldn't survive some of my conference calls without this forum on one now that I don't think I need to be on but the participants want me on to confirm they are doing the right thing - downside of being bossy I suppose
Ain't Nobody Here
That's great news, Margaret (I came on to check progress too ). Welcome to Mabel - they'll probably be best of friends after a night together in the eglu . Now you can relax . (I hope Omlet are refunding you, btw?) Margaret
Hi all, When I left for work they were playing out in the rain trying to catch the rain drops in their beaks..very funny. Was worried last night, nasty face pecking going on and then trying to ignore each other, then went to bed and snuggled up and are now friends. What stress hope now all ok. Omlet didnt offer a refund only an exchange, but couldnt wait two weeks, Lavender was too upset. Any way all fine now.
Ain't Nobody Here
It sounds hopeful . I think Omlet are being a bit mean . The least they could do is offer you credit for the Omlet shop .
feemcg
No refund for a pullet that died within a few days ......I think I'd insist upon it. It wasn't reasonable for you to wait till the 29th anyway!
katieadams
Aren't they obliged to offer a refund? Fit for purpose and all that, not to mention all the distance buying stuff Dunno what applies to livestock but you'd think they'd do it in goodwill anyway - not like word won't get around and I know it would stop me buying from them (not that I'm in delivery area anyway but if I was it would). I hate bad customer service
