How did that happen?!

Recommended Posts

Hee hee, thanks for the replies!!

Tom, I've gone for a Barnevelder, a Light Sussex and their Wernlas Olive, which I think from the descriptions might be a Welsummer crossed with a Cream Legbar. She lays olive eggs.

Redwing, how on earth did that happen?! What did you order? My Other Half always maintains there is a vortex on the doorstep of Dixons, now I know the feeling!! (though chickens are much more interesting!)

Plum, I know, I know, I feel like that too! We're being fairly drastic in our revision plans of the garden I have to say, and my vet did advise us to leave the garden empty for at least a month, but we've passed that point now and I'm a bit more able to think of the future instead of just feeling sad about losing my Omlet ladies!

So now it's going to be all hands to the pump to put up a WIR and to get the Cube delivered. Reckon I'm going about it all back to front but I'm sure we'll get there!!

OOOO :D A Wernlas Olive sounds very interesting, and the Barnevelder and Lt Sussex will look very pretty together in your new set up. I will look forward to seeing pics.

I haven't heard of the Wernlas Olive before - when I got my girls last year, I asked for a 'Speckledy', but they said that was a hybrid and they only sold purebreeds. (What I meant to ask for was a Speckled Sussex, which is a pure breed and they do sell  )

They are lovely people at Wernlas though, so you can be assured you will be happy with your girls when you get them.

I know exactly what you mean I 'just rang to ask for information' back in Feb and the next thing they have your credit card details and hens are ordered :lol: but I have three lovely Wernlas girls that arrived in April.

Thanks for all the replies! :D Eglutine, I do have some favourite names picked out, but will have to see the girls first before picking them finally!

Same happened to me last Thursday, although I was told there were no Barnevelders

How did you manage that one Budgies?

I've also gone for a Wernlas Olive, those green eggs sounded irresistible!

Don't know!! Shaun was telling me what they'd got and I kept saying "I'm not ready yet, I haven't built the walk in run". In the end I said I couldn't take any before early July, at which point he relaxed a bit more and asked what I wanted!!

They are very busy and incredibly popular, it seems.

I don't really know what the Olive will look like, he said salmon breasted with speckles on her back, sometimes brown, sometimes grey. Sounds like cream legbar marking in there to me!!

Thanks again for everyone who put up with me PMing them lots of questions, you're stars!! :D

Barkisland, oh no, what a shame you missed out on the breed you wanted!

I must admit I was glad I'd done some research, it's easy to get overwhelmed on the phone about what you want when Shaun starts reeling off lists of breeds.

I was tempted to say yes to Welsummers then it occured to me I hadn't a clue whether they would be okay confined to a run!

I figure we can always get the other breeds we want to experience later on in our chicken-keeping careers!!

I'll definitely have the camera ready and will bore you all with lots of pictures when we get them! Promise!!

My girls have been on order from wernlas since February!!! they should be coming in July :D:D:D but have had many days of wondering if i've ordered the right mix!! But will are chocker after these ones arrive :(:(:(:(

What have you ordered? I guess the timing comes with what is on order and how old you want them - I wanted to ensure they were all girls and the breeds I ordered could be sexed at 1 day, 6 weeks & 14 weeks respectively so I didn't get them until 14 weeks old - I guess some people with limited additional accommodation may want to wait until they are 20 weeks old before they get them.

Good luck and I am sure they will be worth the wait.

I've a buff and speckled sussex, a silver laced wyandotte and a barnvelder!! The youngest is 13weeks at the mo, and they suggested I wait until they are 20 weeks until they come. If I can get the intros I am doing finished soonish I might ask if they can come a bit earlier

It's a dangerous game as I always see something else that i'd like! This time i've gone for prettyness and medium egg production!
