My mum always wore an apron (pinny), and I still have one that she made for me, as well as a couple of others - but I'm rubbish at remembering to put one on. I really should, as I've always got flour/oil/tomato down my clothes when I'm cooking! And it would indeed be handy for gathering eggs, apples and so on.

I have 2 pinnies, one made by my MIL and another bought for OH for when he cooks on the BBQ. He's never worn it so I've nabbed it. I wouldn't be without either of them. MIL was surprised I was still wearing the one she made as it's 5 years old now.

 

I quite fancy making myself one though, just have to find the material...

My nan used to have those dust coats with a zip up the front, I remember her in a green one. When she wasn't wearing them they'd be hung on the back of the door in her kitchen cupboard. I loved the smell of that cupboard. She's been gone 14 years now but every so often I'll get a whiff of that cupboard. I'd do anything to be eight years old, standing in that cupboard again.

My mum used to have long flowery ones that I used to hide behind. I have a picture of me somewhere ... must look it out.

Now the image of a nice looking fella in an apron is another thing

I have four aprons and I virtually live in them! I love them all but I don't have enough as they get dirty very quickly and so I have to wash them a lot. I've hinted to my OH that I'd love one of the Omlet pink ones but it hasn't appeared just yet.

 

My friends are all used to seeing me turn up at school in my pinny! lol

 

I love that pattern - those aprons are really sweet - I wonder if you can still buy that one...

I always wear an apron to cook in, it would feel really strange not to wear one now and I always sit to eat dinner with it on - I forget to take it off (not if we have company though).

 

I asked my MIL for a new one for Christmas a couple of years ago and she was like but she got me a really nice one.

 

It has to have pockets to carry the knives and forks, salt and pepper, sauce etc!

I have two aprons. One I wear when I am baking.

 

The other one (given to OH when we got a new BBQ but never worn) I hang over a folded up clothes airer and set in the open back doorway on good days to stop the chickens coming into the house.

My Mum is not an apron wearer and neither am I unless I am doing something very messy like jam making. The only aprons we have are the sort that go round your neck and tie at the back, one of them is a butchers apron which we bought for OH in the cash and carry and it is huge nearly reaches the floor He is more likely to wear one than I am.

 

I might get my ED to make one of those lovely old ones there must be a pattern amongst my Gran's patterns which she has inherited. I like the idea of pockets I never have enough pockets in the summer so a pinny would be

I have an apron but I don't wear it every day, mainly if I'm baking cakes or whipping cream (well anything with the food mixer as it spits at me!!!). I do however wear it when we have spagetti for tea to save my clothes from the inevitable pasta sauce flick.

 

I never saw my Nan out of her apron, she used to bring it with her when she visited us!

 

Going back to Snowy's original post - I think aprons have antibacterial qualities and more children today should be exposed to them to help with their immune systems!!!!
