Father in law in hospital.*Sad update*

Recommended Posts

Yesterday - he was asleep all the time we visited him - we could not wake him - but at least we went. Last night he had an anxiety attack - so they dosed him up with tamazipam.

Today - he was awake moaning that he had been starved of water. He was very confused & drank lots when we passed him the glass ( held by us) & his straw.

His long term memory was there, but his short term memory has gone.

He then said that my hubby had flooded the ward & panicked. He'd seen my hubby topping up his water jug. He then drifted off to sleep, so we popped into the cafe for a cuppa.

Later when he was awake he said he was on a cruise, then a helicopter, he told us what the oxygen levels should be on an RAF plane ( he's a ex RAF navigator). Then as we were going he said there was bacon in front of him.

Poor love was having crazy hallucinations & going back over his life & what he'd done. He was clammy , but his leg kept falling out of bed & I kept putting it back - it was icy cold.

It is so sad to see him deteriorate so quickly.

So sorry to hear that your FIL isn't any better Emma. Sadly we saw the exact same things with my Dad in his last few weeks. The hallucinations will be very disconcerting for him but probably more distressing for you and his family. Unfortunately I can't offer any real words of wisdom other than to say that I hope whatever is to come is as peaceful and painfree as possible.

Love & Best Wishes xx

It sounds just how my grampy was, really confused and seeing things that weren't there. He was convinced the doctors and nurses were trying to do away with him, and he tried to refuse his medication thinking they were poisoning him. It's really distressing when you see it, I spent most of my time in tears when I was visiting him.

Sending you big hugs.
