jlo
As a follow on from the cleaning the house thread, I was going to do a poll to see which is the worst job. Then I realised that it would probably be too long! The reason I thought about it was when I had to clean out the dishwasher gunk this morning and realised that this is perhaps my worst job! It is the way that it is all white and slimy and just Perhaps I should clean it more often and then it won't be so bad!
Cinnamon
Ironing - hated so much that I opted out altogether about 10 years ago. I only have a teeny travel size iron now, which was from Freecycle, & that was only got to put my girls badges on their uniforms when they were Sea cadets. Not keen on de hairing the bath & shower plug holes either
majorbloodnock
Well, I must admit gutting fish isn't high on my list of things I'd like to do with my time, and nor is clearing up after the cat when he's coughed up yet another furball in the sitting room. Any kind of plumbing has me swearing within minutes, especially since I don't have child-sized hands with a rock-climber's strength on the ends of arms with four fully rotating elbows. However, for sheer "wish it didn't fall to me to do", I reckon my personal winner is finding my kids have been flushing all sorts down the toilet again and having to clear the blockage from the drains. It doesn't happen often, but it's still to frequent for my liking.
chelsea
Changing the bed sheets is a chore. I love having clean sheets but we have a humungous bed and a down duvet that weighs a tonne so it's an effort I dont look forward to especially on a hot day. (phew!) Mrs Webmuppet
I have two worst jobs - washing the kitchen floor - I have to get down on my hands and knees and scrub it (with the added risk that I might not get back up again ) and cleaning the bathroom that LMW and Mr Webmuppet use ( I have my own tiny ensuite )....they seem to get toothpaste all over the place! I gave up on the ironing years ago (hopeless at it- I leave Mr W to do that) and as for LMW's bedroom argh!
Valkyrie
Number one enemy is dusting shortly followed by cobwebbing. Why on earth do we do something that as soon as you turn your back after wiping it all down the dust reappears and those pesky spiders zip around again. Minnie&Moose
Anything to do with laundry Picking it up off the floor where it's been dumped, putting it in the dirty laundry basket, sorting it, stuffing it in the machine, hauling it out, hanging it up, sorting it out again, and putting it away - I hate everything about it, and it appears to rule my life! There's only 3 of us but we seem to create a mountain of the stuff! We are either the dirtiest people in the UK or the cleanest
bronze
Its the folding the laundry and putting it away part of laundry I hate. I also don't like vacuuming... or dusting... or ironing ( I dont iron) or loading the dishwasher... or unloading the dishwasher. I think you get the idea
Guest
I guess washing and ironing for me too. Washing - all that taking it out hanging it up business bores me silly. Lucky the washing machine is in Mums kitchen and I have no idea where I put my iron and board (ok they are in the loft) In return I lop trees, bushes and generally do the garden stuff including the lawn (for which I bought a ride-on mower which is the best form of stress relief known to man)
AJuff
I decided the worst job in the house is making lunch for the kids!! I often feel it's a means to an end and not a pleasurable mealtime. Worst housework job has to be removing hair down the plughole closely followed by the ironing.
ali-s
The worst job in this house this week was cleaning the bathroom sink, toilet and shower tray after the septic tank backed up . This was after poor Andy had to rod the drains leading to the septic tank to shift the blockage The tank backed up twice in 3 days. I will be phoning around tomorrow to get the tank emptied. BeckyBoo
Agree - washing machine filter - obviously designed by a man - I have to lie on the floor, reach into the dark and turn the cap which I can't see (as per hysterical posting by majorbloodnock) especially since I don't have child-sized hands with a rock-climber's strength on the ends of arms with four fully rotating elbows. Have to grit my teeth and hold my breath whilst unblocking the bath plug-hole, makes me retch Clearing up the garden after the dog (she's had an upset stomach two days this week ) putting washing away - there is TONNES of it, half of it is pink and I always get it mixed up so then there's a "You're wearing my (insert top, skirt, trousers)!" Followed by "Well it was in MY wardrobe....." hate emptying the chest freezer to defrost it - luckily that's not very often! I'm a bit of a saddo though, although I don't like tidying I love it when it's done, so I do it quite a lot, and once I start ironing I don't mind doing it (mind you, I don't start very often ) BeckyBoo
Valkyrie
Er, better do my filter too - we've only had it a couple of years.
Happy chickens!
I hate it if one of the cats is ever sick; it's always in the night and warm puke makes me feel ever so and it's funny how the noise never wakes anyone else Still can't leave it, can just imagine if one of the kids trod in it... Busybird
I only iron OH's shirts - and as he only wears them when we go out (which is rare) this has become a 'few times a year' task, thank goodness. My worst, regular job is dusting. I find so many reasons not to do it and then feel bad that the surfaces look so dull (hidden under all the dust ). I also dislike washing the floor (we have a lot of hard floor) so generally pay one of my boys to do it (DS2 will do it for 50p although not very thoroughly...). I quite enjoy the vacuuming and laundry. How sad does that make me

Do you have a soakaway? - our soakaway blocked about 20' from the tank and we had to have the tank emptied three times - the floods sorted out the blockage.....a blessing in disguise. Plugholes is a yuk job.....closely followed by unpacking shopping.....it's bad enough having to do any shopping, but then you get home and have to unpack it all - it's no better when having shopping delivered, still have to find homes for everything
Christian
Filter??? In a washing machine you say? Hmmm. Edit - Heavens above Found the remains of a family of small rodents I think. Have mopped up all evidence and left a note for OH to clean the filter when I am at work on Tuesday.
AJuff
I think I'd like to edit my previous post . . I now think dealing with the understairs cupboard is definately the worst job. It has taken me 2 hours to sort it out. In my bid to get organised I have allocated each child a coat peg and a hat/gloves/scarf/sun hat box all labelled. I have a huge bag for the charity shop of coats and shoes that no longer fit. I also found out where all my glass headed pins had got to. I feel very pleased with the result and as ever I vow not to let it get that bad again.

The blockages always seem to happen when we have visitors My parents were here last week when the tank played up twice. It happened in April when Jack had his 18th Birthday party. 40+ guests and 8 friends stayed over, now that was a blockage and a half

I hate cleaning windows and we have soooooooooo much glass here. If I ever move and have to replace windows I'll use that Pilkington Activ that cleans itself in the rain
