I've Been Badly Stung by Something

Recommended Posts

Some sort of buzzing insect got caught in my hair earlier and stung me on the back of the neck

My neck is painful and has gone very stiff to the point where turning my head hurts :( I have taken painkillers but its not helping and I'd rather not take any more

The sting has turned the skin red, raised and swollen for an area the size of a CD

Obviously its not bad enough to go to casulty but has anyone got some home remedy tips please?

I have the sane reaction to being stung. Keep taking the anti histamines, if it gets any worse it's off to A& E for a jab but normally the worse of the swelling occurs within the first couple of hours.Get someone to check that the sting is no longer in the swolen bit , if it is s"Ooops, word censored!"e it out with a finger nail - don't squeeze the sting as that releases more poisin.

Ditto the above ...

I react VERY badly to stings (hence my hesitance in Beekeeping) and keep both steroid tablets and cream (prescription) in the bathroom cabinet.

It's so bad I keep all number of bug sprays by the back door - I can't even tend the veg patch without being bitten / stung by something or other :(

Fingers crossed, the antihistamines will have taken effect by now

Hope you're feeling much better.

Kind rgds,

Pat & Steve

surely bicarb and vinegar defeats the object somewhat

 It was worth a try I was in that much pain

The sting is not left in there but it feels like it iis, hubby says thats something to do with the fact that it hit a muscle or something...

Thanks Staffordmum, I forgot about hydrowotsit cream, have dug some out

Its still painful but I have a busy day today so onwards and upwards!

Thanks all :D

Poor you!

The last time I got a wasp sting, the little so & so got tangled in my hair at the back of my head & got me twice.

It was horrid - my head went all tight feeling as the stings swelled up & I felt really faint too, then my glands all came up.

So I sympathise!

I bet it was a wasp that got you!

I have been searching this thread for any help as I was stung by something yesterday,it flew into my hair and I got stung on the hand. I am typing with my left hand now as my right hand is hugely swollen, red and hot and I cannot bend my fingers. I have taken piriton and rubbed in anti histamine cream but is so sooo sore, maybe I just need sympathy! OH is away so it is a one handed day, doing the hens should be a laugh!

This is the second sting in 8 weeks as I got stung on the sole of the foot last time but nothing like this, that was just itchey and slightly red. :(

:(:( And it is the same hand that I got a horrid steam burn on too.

Ouch! do keep an eye on it, the antihistamine should help, and if you have any 1% hydrocortisone cream to apply. I agree if it continues to get worse, get it looked at. My friends' daughter disturbed a wasp net last week whilst gardening and was stung 8 times. She ended up being airlifted to hospital after having an anaphylactic reaction - cardiac arrest and everything!:shock: Luckily she is OK but it was a very close call. Do be careful around wasps! :? Hope it eases Jillus - trouble is if you don't have a reaction this time, you could end up still reacting next time.

What about asking at the chemists? I was stung badly on my ankle once and it doubled in size. I asked in boots and they got the pharmacist out who went  at the size of my foot. They gave me something but I can't remember what it was. Other than that perhaps a trip to doctors or A & E might be needed.

Hope it goes down soon.
