People are so careless

Recommended Posts

After much saving I finally became of the owner of a brand new car on Sunday. Nothing flash - just a baby Hyundai. It is my pride and joy. I've never had a new car but all my second hand ones have had problems, and my little VW was going to cost more to repair than it was worth and kept cutting out at the most inopportune moments.

We went out for lunch today. We came back and the most horrendously dented (it looked like it had been 'uncrushed'), badly parked, scratched and s"Ooops, word censored!"ed red 04 plate (ie fairly new) car was parked next to it ... and my door has red paint and a dent in it where they have just flung their door open  . I know accidents happen, but these are good sized spaces. I parked a good walk away in the hope it would be ok.

I know it is just a car, but I would have liked it to have lasted more than 5 days without getting dented. Andy says there is nothing we can do - we can't prove it was them, the dent isn;t big enough to have taken out but my eyes just zoom in on it. I doubt anybody else will see it once the paint is polished out

Feel like I am becoming the Queen of Rants at the moment

Oh that's terrible Redfrock, I know just how you feel that always happens to our cars which is why we never buy anything decent, well that and the cost of a nice car

It's so frustrating especially as the car is brand new, at least it lasted 5 days, our first new car had a dent in the roof after it's first night in the drive  We think our nasty neighbour thumped it but like you couldn't prove anything :x

Enjoy your lovely new car, you will notice the dent less as time goes on I promise!

I know that feeling Reddie. I park away from anyone else and furthest away from shop entrances (everybody seems to fight for the spots closest to the door) which also makes me walk a fair distance depending on how big the supermarket is. I can be in the middle of nowhere and when I come back there is always someone parked next to me - still in the middle of nowhere - why park so close? Why not leave a couple of spaces as a gap? :? Then sometimes you see a scratch mark along the paintwork where someone's handbag has s"Ooops, word censored!"ed along the side - or the rivets on jeans. Garghhh, makes you so cross.

So sorry about your dent, but at least you didn't make the first one! However, not wanting to do any oneupmanshipping, but a few weeks ago we were parked in the supermarket car park, went in to do our shopping and when we returned the back of our car was in the front...... A very stressed looking man was rushing around talking to everyone who came out of the shop to find out whose car his very large campervan had reversed into!! Well, he found out soon enough, but oh we felt so sorry for him. He thought he had put the brake on properly, but infact he hadn't. When he came back from doing his shopping he found his vehicle sitting on the back seat of ours! He managed to drive it and then had to set about trying to find us. Would you believe, he only had a broken rear light!!!!! Car all better now though and the various dents we had make over the years have been eradicated. Alls well that ends well.

Our cars look like bumper cars but not one dent or s"Ooops, word censored!"e has happened whilst we've been in the cars  We park them, walk away and on our return as if by magic (no Mr Benn doesn't appear  ) another dent has :(

The quickest was while I was getting my pay and display ticket in Sainsburys. Redfrock perhaps you should park as close to the shops as possible then hopefully you may get a witness, tho hopefully nothing else will happen to your lovely new car

How infuriating! It makes me so cross!!!

Before I even park the car I remind the children to be careful with the door on the car next to us. If it's a tight space or a bit too windy i make them stay put and I open the door for them. Pity they didn't think ahead for you.

I had my car 3 years without a knock then got a dent a lady was getting her child out and BANG (I was in my car) anyhow I got it fixed she paid (via insurance) and then about a week later I came out of work and I had a ding in another door and someone had tried to rub it with their finger as the dirt was all mushed! Its really annoying as someone knew they had done it as the spot had been rubbed.

But shame no one else heard or saw it. I have stopped to pass on registrations for people that dont stop..the number of times I have seen supermarket trolleys running into cars as people have let them go...

I think we seem to accept these dents are inevitable..but annoying.

urgh makes me feel so sorry for you as I was lucky I was in my car and the lady admitted it(I did feel rotten sort of but then thought how much I had paid for my car 3 years ago)

The insurance company did ask me if CCTV was in the area?

A few years ago I picked our new car on friday afternoon, parked it as usual outside the house (never had any problems before) was woken at 7.00am Saturday by a neighbour "Is that your new car with no wheels!" All four wheels had been removed with the locking wheel nuts lined up on the curb. Luckely the cars were on a scheme throught work so we didn't have to shell out any money.

We also have a fair few knock and bumps from car parks on our present car (which is the first new car of our own) and are always telling the kids to be careful when opening their doors.

I am not surprised that you feel like ranting. That is so annoying - especially with a brand new car!

I had the opposite in that the day before I was due to trade in my old car, a lady parked next to me at work and managed to s"Ooops, word censored!"e her car all along the side of mine. She got out and walked away ( I didn't know her) but unfortunately for her, two policemen were sitting in their car across the car park, waiting to go into court!

She claimed that she had no idea that she had done it but, when we watched the CCTV, there is no way that she couldn't have been aware of it!

Luckily, the dent made no difference to the price that the dealer gave me for it so she got away with it!

Great story about the camper van by the way!
