Great North Run this weekend................I did it!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, thanks for all your support  Well I managed it but my slowest time ever. Just over 2 and a half hours but I didn't really expect much more. The weather was glorious, the Geordie people gorgeous and the atmosphere electric. :D The Geordies really have to be the best in the world (well except the Scots  ) and line the route from start to finish. They dish out sweeties, ice pops and oranges in the last few miles and one lovely man even hoses us down from a bus shelter every year. :D The bands are brilliant too. :D Come on Omleteers keep me company next year :!:

I'm a bit late I know...but I hope everything goes well for you today...and I really envy you..although I live down here on the south coast, my mum was a Geordie, born in Dunstan, and I visited for the first time ever a year or so ago, and I thought Newcastle and Gateshead were absolutely wonderful....We had such a warm welcome...can't wait to visit again, and keep trying to persuade DS to apply to uni there just so we have an excuse to visit more often!!

..Incidentally, whilst we were there OH and I overheard a snippet of phone conversation, Friday Night, just crossing the Tyne (bearing in mind we were in Gateshead in January) a young girl in a strapless party frock ( no jacket..of course...its Newcastle) on the phone to her friends and all we heard as she walked past us.... "Let the drunkeness begin!!":lol:

there is a newcastle football fan that goes to matches and whips his shirt off - no matter what the weather is like :lol::lol:

personally I think that they are all a bit bonkers up there  (it a nice way, obviously :D ) ive been to newcastle quite a few times and I agree, most people are so friendly, but, they are round here too, about 50 miles south :D

I tried to edit my first post but it didn't work so I'll repeat it all again. Thank you all for your support  I did it but my slowest time ever at just over 2 and a half hours. The time didn't really matter as the whole weekend was brilliant. The sun shone :) and the Geordie people came out in their thousands to line the route :) They have to be the best people ever and dished out sweeties, ice pops and oranges. Bless them all. The last couple of miles would have been agony without their support. The bands were brilliant and the atmosphere electric, come on Omleteers keep me company next year :!::!:
