chickencam
Has anyone else sent their child to school a day early after a holiday? Well I did it today with my youngest, her older brother and sister both went back today and she got up and ready too. She walks to school on her own after I have crossed her over the main road near our house. She then rings me on her mobile to tell me when she is there safely. Today she rang me and said 'there is no one else here' I even had it marked in my diary, but hadn't turned the page to this week. My husbands secretary did this on her eldest son's first ever day at school and I have always been really careful, checking loads of times. It doesn't help having 3 children at different schools, so I am not sure what happened today She has her 11+ on Saturday, so it has given us an extra opportunity to do some practice questions. She has taken it in good spirits, we just hope that she wasn't spotted by anyone.

Seagazer
I'm the same as Clootie, a day late. The school rang me at lunchtime to find out what was wrong with YS - by that time it wasn't really worth sending him in.
clootie
same !! He was running around the garden with his friends at the time, how could I get him into his uniform and stop the fun? It made it even more fun when I told him !!
kitchens
Never missed a day but once when I was 5-6 I went to school an hour early because mum had forgotten to change the clocks. I sat in the playground on my own for that lonely hour Mad to think I had walked to school on my own at that age, although we didn't live far from the school it was far enough! 1976
Willow
I had to break it to my youngest at the end of this summer that although we thought he had an extra day he was back to school the next day. The school had messed up on the dates they'd given earlier in the year and emailed around the day before return If we didn't live so close to the school I'd have been tempted to pretend we hadn't seen the email... We nearly didn't send both boys back on the right day a few years ago (my mistake that time) but the cars turning up for school alerted us. Fortunately some parents turn up so early to ensure they can park as close as possible we had time to get dressed, breakfast, teeth cleaning etc
chickencam
I'll never hear the last of it when OH hears about it
Chucky Mama
DD managed to stop her friend not turning up to school today as she thought it was a training day and it isnt. Had an awful situtation a couple of years ago when a rather neglectful parent left her 8 year old daughter out for the taxi that collected all of the village children and went to work It was a freezing cold day and also a teacher training day. The local postie called on me to help when she found her still sitting there 3 hours later! I took her in an ended up phoning the police as of course I had taken someones child in without their permisison. She had no idea where her mum worked or what her number was. Social services ended up getting involved
Mrs Frugal
Ummm, well, yes. I did today . I had a phone call at 8am from Ollie saying that the school bus hadn't turned up and no one else was waiting at the bus stop. Could I check that it wasn't a training day today........and it was . He's delighted as he's upstairs now playing on his computer and reading books instead of studying at school . I had been checking the school dates list all week but hadn't noticed the return day was Tuesday instead of Monday .

Cinnamon
Not quite the same, but when I was about 6 we lived a short walk from my school & all the kids walked there on their own. So off I went to find the path to school manned by Police saying that the scool had burnt down in the night............................. So I toddled back to find my parents totally didn't believe me - they sent me 'back' to school 3 times!!! I had to get a copper to come & tell them that I wasn't pulling a fast one in the end

Joojoo
Yes it happened here. At the end of a half term a few years I got DS all dressed and at school for 8.30pm and couldn't understand why there were no other children going in and why the roads were particularly quiet. He's never let me live that down Flipping PD days!!!!!
chickencam
I love your story Cinnamon My parents would have been like that too. I have been forgiven and even OH hasn't made too much of it. Third children get a rough deal, I left her in the playground when she was about 3. She was off playing with a friend while we waited for the older ones to line up, and I was chatting to a friend. The friend and I walked out together and half way home I realised I was missing something. I have never run so fast in my life. I was mortified she had barely noticed and was walking out with her friend and her mum.
Kirstine
When DH and I were first married, his ex left the kids (then aged 7 and 9) with us for a fortnight over Christmas while she went off on holiday. A bit of a baptism of fire for me, aged 25, childless and 3 weeks married! We survived and in fact had a whale of a time; although lessons learned that year include the fact that 4pm on Christmas Eve is too late to buy a turkey. The ex-wife-in-law hadn't told us (probably hadn't noticed) that school started back a few days before she was due home. Luckily we had a teacher friend who happened to mention that she was due back at work on whatever day it was, which cued some ringing round fellow parents.
