Lozmk1
I need some advice please ladies, im tempted to do my "big" xmas shop online, save the hassle of battling idiots in the aisles. BUT iv never done it before so can anyone answer me some questions? 1.Do you get the rubbish stuff that "Ooops, word censored!"ody else wants cos you'v not chosen it yourself? like bruised bananas and mouldy satsumas? 2.Can you use coupons and vouchers if you do it online? iv got over £30 in clubcard vouchers to use, i figured they would shave a chunk off the bill? 3. has anyone ever got their order delivered and it been completely wrong? 4.what happens if stuff is missing from your order? 5.is it easy to do online? do you just type in what you want and it fetches up suggestions?? i feel lazy cos tescos is only 3 miles from my house but it makes so much more sense to let someone else do it for me whilst i get the house ready for my family turning up, and i dont finish work til the 23rd evening- they turn up lunchtime on the 24th! Fizzle Knit
This will be the first time I've done a major Christmas shop online, so I'm a little worried too that they'll forget to bring the turkey or another essential! Have you booked your slot yet as if not you may have to hurry. I booked with Ocado 10 days ago and the nearest I could get to Christams Day was the 20th (although I don't mind that as if they do mess up it still gives me time to go out for essentials). Also, on the Ocado shop it did tell me what the sell-by dates would be of what I was buying, and they were all for beyond Xmas day.
Space Chick
A number of things here.... * Christmas delivery slots book up REALLY quickly, and a lot of supermarkets offer early booking to loyal customers, so you may find that you'll only be able to get a slot a week before anyway. * You can use clubcard vouchers online, there is an online code printed on them that you use at the checkouts * I have always found Sainsburys excellent with produce quality, Tesco not so good. * You can choose to have substitutions if something isn't in stock * I have had SEVERAL items missing from Tesco orders but this has never happened with Sainsburys. * It is really easy to do online, particularly if you add in your clubcard/nectar card number as it will know all your favourite items As a word of advice, they allow you to book slots 3 weeks in advance, I would set an alarm for 3 weeks before say the 20th Dec, and get in and book the latest slot you can, start and check out an order (it can be changed right up to the day before the order comes), and if you decide you want to cancel you can at any time. Hope this helps
Lozmk1
oooh didnt think about booking up in advance! will have to check, im sat here pondering it (im supposed to be working OOPS!) and actually if the deliverys are booked up i might be as well goin late night on the 22nd or 23rd? they are open 24 hours afterall. AND my OH is off work so if they have run out of something i can always send him on the hunt for stuff in the interim? arghhh so much to think about!! BeckyBoo
If you've got a freezer get everything you can freeze and get it early. I hate the mass panic buying before Christmas, I know it's supposed to be a feast for friends and family but it can end up SUCH a stressful time it kind of defeats the object. Loads of things can be bought well in advance to save the worry of not getting what you want and most of the shops have their Christmas lines in already (have had for weeks! ) I've got a much smaller do this year but I'm not going to stress, no one is going to die if I don't have sprouts (although I might cry ) Mums already got an alcohol free pud and I've got one I made last year, other than that it's a normal roast and I'll be buying my meat in the next week or two and it can sit in the freezer. If you want an organic or free range turkey or meat I'd book that early with whoever you're getting it from, they disappear fairly sharpish! I'm determined not to be in Sainsburys the week before, doesn't matter what time you go it's always hell (bet I'm there with the rest tho - I ALWAYS forget something! ) BeckyBoo
Redwing
I like Sainsburys on line, they are very good with nearly everything The meat however often comes with a very short date on it, we have complained and it got a lot better but we get a lot of our meat from the local farm shop anyway
dippy bird
I used to use Tesco many moons ago.Once they substituted the dog food I'd ordered - and sent me CAT food instead!
Lozmk1
im doing my 1st xmas and as a baptism of fire its for 7 people!! we are having duck (s) so ill buy them in the next couple of weeks along with the sausages and freeze them, iv got stuffing (2 diff types!) and iv already been out and bought biscuits, nuts, wine and non perishables, my big shop will be for 6 pts of skimmed milk, tonnes and tonnes of fruit and veg, cheeses and all the gluten free flours and faffy bits as close to xmas as poss and some champers and baileys (for me!) poor fridge will be heaving under the strain of everything! hmm i might be best to just do it myself it was a nice thought though getting it delivered so i didnt have the added hassle of a moaning OH dropping stuff into the trolley to see if i'd notice! docsquid
I've tried a few online supermarkets, but Ocado is the only one I'd actually trust to get it right. One year I used Sainsbury's and they didn't send the turkey because they were out of stock! I had to go to the local store and fight over the last few turkeys they had on the shelf there. I've used Ocado for several years now and they have been excellent. They rarely substitute anything and when they do it is a sensible substitution e.g. they don't substitute a bottle of wine for a wine box (no good if you are having a party!). I don't think I'd trust anybody else to deliver my Christmas stuff.
Cinnamon
I used to use Tesco many moons ago.Once they substituted the dog food I'd ordered - and sent me CAT food instead! Thats nothing. Space Chick
Tesco have substituted organic things I ordered with value things Needless to say I have sent them back Although I haven't shopped with Tesco for a very long time now, as enough is enough with their ethics
BarbaraJ
I have tried Tesco , Sainsburys and Ocado. Tesco were awful red wine for wine, wholemeal bread for white (there must have been other options for both) .Can find no fault with Ocado and have my xmas shopping booked already including turkey and have no worries about it all turning up. The main reason i like Ocado apart from the quality is the delivery time slot of an hour rather than 2hrs as i have a small window in the day when kids sleep to get my shopping in. bellekatz
I'm an ocado fan as well and have my christmas delivery all booked. I had a friend at work who once had a Robbie Williams CD substituted by a tin of beans from tesco. Maybe thats all they thought of him
Guest
DON'T use your Tesco vouchers for Tesco shopping. Your £30 will be worth £30 off your shopping BUT £120 if you use it in clubcard deals - surely you can find something in there for Xmas pressies - goldsmiths the jewellers springs to mind! Mum just booked her spring cruise using clubcard vouchers - I used them last time to pay for my first trip on QM2 (where Mum is right now!) chelsea
I never shop instore, in fact haven't done it for years. Have never had any major problems with Sainsburys - you probably will get some substitutes over Christmas and if you want a Christmas week slot book early! If you check out their website now it will give you an indication of how far you can book ahead.
abwsco
As I'm doing Christmas dinner this year I booked my Ocado slot as soon as I got my email. I just need to make sure that I add to and edit it as I remember things.
Joojoo
My advice would be to steer as far away from Tesco online as possible I have been told by staff at their call centre on two separate occasions this afternoon that they are having major problems with all of their online ordering sites
Lozmk1
ooh err instore for me then! our vouchers come from petrol and diesel as myself and my partner go thru £85 a week in fuel or more (£50 for him and £35+ for me) and that filling station is the closest one to us and often the cheapest. never thought about using them for something else, i just thought it would be a nice lump off the big xmas shop! hmm thanks for the brain fodder ladies! TAJ
I had a few bad experiences with Tesco's online a few years ago and haven't use them since. I used Ocado for the first time last week - excellent service, godd prices and cheaper delivery charges - I will certainly use them again. I once got bean sprouts instead of Brussels sprouts I have used Ocado ever since & they are fantastic Totally agree about Ocado, fantastic service. Only had one substitute in two years of shopping for 7 people, and an intelligent replacement was offered. Unlike Te$co, who gave a friend Lemon Bathroom Cleaner instead of Lemons! Lesley
I have a friend who has MS and was physically unable to go Christmas shopping, her husband was away on business so she ordered everything from Tesco - the order was to be delivered on the morning of the 24th - it was hours late, had many items missing including the turkey....it was a complete disaster..... Tescos gave me an uncut loaf from the in-house bakery as a substitute for a sliced one - if I go to the shop you just ask them to slice it, so why someone picking it off the shelf couldn't be bothered I don't know! I had some very odd substitutions and the raw meat being packed in with other fesh produce was the final straw. At Ocado even tthe bags are colour coded so you get the freezer stuff sorted very easily. Tracy
sadietoo
I have used both tesco and sainsbury's online...Not Ocado...we only order heavy stuff that we don't want to lug...nothing fresh we buy locally from the farm shop where possible.. Sainbury's outstrip Tesco's by a mile, and I have had reasonably intelligent substitutions...(dried chickpeas instead of tins..but 2 kilos!!). Book early for christmas, failing that I have to confess for stress free shopping at Christmas I have been known to buy my entire list from Waitrose..(still busy, but everyone is so jolly and so very polite to each other dontcha' know!!!), yes it is more expensive but we are veggie and so there isn't a huge difference in price for us
