I have rehomed my girls :o(

Recommended Posts

Since I have gone back to work full time, I have had less and less time to spend with the girls and it had got so that I was just throwing in some corn in the morning (as they had gone to bed by the time I got home). :(:( Also had signs of a rat at the top of the garden so was bringing in their pellets at night and a couple of times I forgot to put them out again in the morning. Their pellets that is - I didn't forget to let the girls out and always gave them some corn but I felt that their care was very hit and miss. So, anyway, I decided that it would be better for them to go to someone who could look after them better. Felt very bad about rehoming Merlot as she is an ex-batt but with the help of the Little Hen Rescue, she and Sparkle have gone together to a new home where they will get spoilt and have plenty of free-range time. A work colleague who lives in the next village and keeps chickens has taken Angel and Dumpling and they will also get more attention and free-range time.

They went on Saturday morning and it was strange at the weekend to be looking up the garden and not seeing them and although they had always gone to bed by the time I got home, it is odd knowing they are not up the end of the garden when I walk up the path.

I will miss them but I always believe it is my responsibility to do what is best for my pets and I didn't feel I was looking after them properly or giving them the best life they could have.

I will probably put the eglu on ebay when I get round to cleaning it up - probably not until after Christmas now - but will let you know when I do. And I will still look on the forum as it is one of my home pages - will also continue voting for Isabelle Giggles as she is another of my home pages. :D

oh what a shame, could you maybe just get a cple of ickle bantams and keep them in the eglu run? They wouldn't need as much maintenance as big girls would they? Seems such a shame xxx

More hugs - a hard but selfless decision, I know what you mean, I don't really see mine until the weekends either. At least you know they've gone each with a friend and will be well looked after. Well done you for a tough choice - you're still a chicken mummy, but a mummy-in-waiting until circumstances change again! :D
