Pics of lavender araucana freshly bathed

Recommended Posts

Hi, I heard you like photos?

I had to give her a bath today as she had a dirty head and bottom!

I dried her thoroughly with the hairdryer as I know its not a good time of year for bathing.

I took these photos in my lounge against the white walls and then she did a massive splat poo that went everywhere including up the walls! argh.

I hope she's a hen!

I'd love to know how you managed to wash her hairdo...

My Olive is a Poland but I wrapped her up in a towel and held her upside down almost and I had the tap running with warm water. I didn't do it all in one go, I put her up the right way quite a few times but she loves having a bath, trusts me totally and is fine with me doing her hair that way.

Sounds like a plan! :)

I'm hoping that her moult will reveal a beautiful new hairdo but it's bound to be minging in no time

Hi, wow thanks for all the replies and compliments! :-)

tom123, thanks! I'm so pleased she's definately a girl as she's very sweet, perches on my hand, runs to me and loves a cuddle.

angels4, she's not a show bird. :-) Thanks for the compliment.

Groovychook, I slowly poured a cup of warm water over her head. Most of the water ran down the back, but some got in her face which she didn't like too much. I had to do a few cups so I spaced it out so she didn't get stressed. I tried to cover her face with my hand while I did it, but chooks don't like their heads being touched. I didn't put any baby shampoo on her head as I didn't want to rinse it too many times. I just smoothed a tiny amount of Tesco Value Baby shampoo over her back. I can't hold her upside down as she flaps to get back on my hand. I tried it when I covered her in diatom a couple of days ago and she shouted at me so loudly that I wondered if she was crowing! I'll try the towel method next time though.

She had lots of quills coming through her head so I preened her by s"Ooops, word censored!"ing off the plastic sheath bit with my fingers, When I did the bit near her ear she shut her eyes and stayed still. She loved it. I do this for my parrot too. hehe. I can't believe how fluffy she looks now.

Yeah, I definately forgive her for the redecorating. It wiped off with antibac spray fine.

Off to put her in the coop now. She still hasn't learnt to climb the ladder. Bless her. She'll come running to me croaking.

Thanks again, glad you all enjoyed the pics.
