Brooder runs

Recommended Posts

I had them in a tank until a few weeks old then something I made which was in the laundry room (tiled) so we could just mop it,

then in the side passage so they could run around there and then into the eglu :)

Not much help if you want to keep them in a run though

The bantams were in a rabbit run and hutch which worked quite well :)

Two things, first they go in an old rat cage of mine, it's massive. http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/cages/rat_cage/13280. My electric hen fits in there nicely.

Then after a few weeks they move out to the garage where I have a rabbit run similar to this but about five foot long http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RABBIT-RUN_W0QQitemZ280441649918QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals?hash=item414b9ffafe with a heat lamp. I prefer my electric hen but as the lighting is so poor in there they benefit from the extra light from the lamp.

I use this until the chicks are old enough to go up to the stable

When they go to the stable they are split in to pairs in rabbit hutches

Next year when I am hatching more I will have to think again though as the rabbit cage is a bit cramped for more than five

I am working on hubby to let me use the shed where we can rig up electric

Thanks guys :D

Well I have got a broody coop with a 6ft long run and 2ft house. I was thinking I will shut the coop door until they are about 3-4 weeks old and then when they are off heat they can go in the run outside.

This is only until the Spring as we have a 6x3 shed which we are going to convert 8)

Thanks again, much appreciated

Tom :)
