Egluntyne
After that I want my ashes scattered in several places around the UK that are special to me. Him Indoors wants half his ashes to be scattered at the winning post at York Racecourse and the other half at the North Bay, Scarborough. He's not a Yorkshireman for nothing! Looney
I'd quite like to be scattered on a vegetable patch - then everyone can think of me when they're tucking into their carrots and cabbage
AnnieP
If I was going to be cremated, I'd like mine put into a giant firework, so I could be blasted off in style.....

Happymama
This thread has had me alternatively in tears and the giggles! I'd have 'Elegy' by David (now Dee) Palmer, from the 1980 'Stormwatch' Album by Jethro Tull (very obsure, what?) And 'Don't worry, Beeee happy'. *whistle* Last funeral I went to was a very good friend who'd been knocked off his motorbike half an hour after he'd been given a ban for being caught doing 130 mph by the feds. He was a member of the 'funny handshake club', and would probably have been let off anyway. Someone left the road and hit him head on. I was on crutches at the funeral myself, having had my left ankle rebuilt after a highside of my own some time previously. The band at Cleckheaton Cricket Club were asked to play 'Where have all the flowers gone?' but they played 'Please don't step on the daisies'. I fell of my crutches laughing, honestly! It really lightened the mood! This was 6 years ago, and I still think of him. Funny, isn't it? I want to be buried in a cardboard box under a tree so my family can return and sit and picnic under the branches.
Chicken Licken
That link doesn't work - but this one does...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8jEPlPR_iQ I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child - whatever their age. I am in awe to you revnev - I could not follow your vocation.
Snowy
If I was going to be cremated, I'd like mine put into a giant firework, so I could be blasted off in style..... Oooh thanks for that idea Annie - I've always wanted to go into space, and this may be the answer! Although, on the practical side, it probably wouldn't go high enough and I'd end up giving all the mourners an ash shower!

Conkers
*sniff* sad and funny things in this thread. My grandma died on New Year's Day - following a massive stroke and having signed a living will, she was allowed to die with relative dignity rather than being kept alive against her wishes. We gave her a green burial - cardboard coffin, in a 'woodland burial site' in the local cemetary - very forward thinking local council. The rellies choose a tree which is then planted on top of the grave. This is exactly what she and all of us wanted and it was gratifying that we were able to carry out it. We didn't have music and funnily enough I thought about this since because I'm making a s"Ooops, word censored!"book about her life (she was an interesting and unusual woman). She hated music - even my dad's - and he's a relatively well known musician. I was thinking how unusual it is to have known someone who didn't like music at all. Knowing her she probably thought it was all a load of sentimental tosh.
Mel (& Paul)
But good that you went with her wishes - if she didnt like music then she would have been miffed if you played something like Angels When Paul's dad died two years ago the "going out" music was "Have a Drink on Me" by Lonnie Donnegon
fourfinches
Choices of music really can personalise a funeral service & I always encourage families to choose music &/or hymns that the peson liked or remind them of them in some way. Sometimes the music makes everyone cry or smile but that is not a bad thing. I remember just after John Peel died going to see Ipswich play and rather than hold a minutes silence in tribute to him they played the Undertones 'Teenage kicks', it just seemed so appropriate for a man who loved music so much. One song I'd really like played at my funeral is Runrig 'Going home' I also like a song by Fischy music called 'As We Go Now' As we go now from this moment, As we leave behind our time together May we walk with one another, may we help each other on the way. As we go now from this moment, As we go into the future together, May we treasure one another, may we realise how precious we are. I just love the words, the feeling that we all need to support and encourage each other and that we are all truly precious. Morag
