Hi All

 

Does anybody know anything about eye cancer?

 

My Dad has been diagnosed - only found out last night so I'm in a bit of a state of shock at the mo.

There are several types, so it is difficult to comment directly - the commonest in adults is melanoma. but it could be one of a number of types.

So sorry - I have no nursing experince of this kind of cancer, but if you google Patient UK and type in Eye tumours - various ones come up. sorry no good at linky things. There are some addresses of cancer charities etc. I do hope this is helpful. Love Ali

Thank you all for your good wishes and support.

 

Have been Googling today and got more info which seems to be quite positive. It is apparently quite rare in the UK, and appears to respond well to treatment as long as caught early enough.

 

Dad has been referred to a specialist eye hospital, in Liverpool I think, for some sort of treatment, don't know what that will be yet, presume we'll be told when his appointment comes through.

 

My sister was telling me earlier that he has been given some massive dark glasses, something like a welder would wear, and as his name is Ray, he is now Ray Orbison.

 

I'm starting to get my head round it all a bit better now, knowledge is power and all that.

If he's going to the hospital in Liverpool that I think he is, then it is one of the top, if not the top, units in the country for this condition. He will be very well looked-after.

Just a quick update on my Dad.

 

Great news - the tumour in Dad's eye has responded really well to treatment - he's just got to finish this 3rd lot of chemo and then he'll be monitored by the local eye hospital.

 

Can't tell you what a huge relief this is, especially for my Mum.
