chick wiggle
Im so sad, woke this morning and one of the chicks has died in its shell, ive checked the temp and humidity and all is fine. Im thinking the humidity must have dropped too much after the first two hatched The other one has hatched but i think it too is suffering (it must be the humidity) it was pasted up a bit and had shell attached to its rear end and i think the umbilical cord is still attached (to its vent, is that right) I have bathed it and popped it back in the incy. Dont know what else to do. Also worried about the first orp, it doesnt seem to want to open its eyes and im not sure its eaten or drank yet All in all, not a good mummys day for me
Falkor
arrrrh Sandie Not sure what to suggest as no experience of inncy hatching but just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you all and am sure that someone will be along shortly with some guidance. xx
Egluntyne
it was pasted up a bit and had shell attached to its rear end and i think the umbilical cord is still attached (to its vent, is that right) I have bathed it and popped it back in the incy. Dont know what else to do. If it is the cord, it will drop of in a day or so. Can you post a pic?
chick wiggle
urgh, batteries dead in camera. The 'umbilical cord' is about 1/2 inch down from its vent. it has a bit of shell stuck to it. I take it this is where the 'umbilical cord should be? But why has it not come off yet?
Egluntyne
Sometimes they take a little while. It will go black and shrivel. So long as the chick is lively and drinking, I would leave well alone. I had a chick once that had its intestines on the outside. It was very obvious that this one wasn't right.
chick wiggle
Thanks Egluntyne, now, should i put him in the brooder with the other two now? They wont go for the cord will they? He hatched about 12 hours ago.
Egluntyne
All you can do is try, and see what happens. It won't harm to leave him in the incubator for a wee while longer. Dip his beak into water to get him to drink every now and then though.

chick wiggle
well the little ones been in the brooder all afternoon with the others and so far is looking good. umbilical cords still attached so hopefully that will fall off soon. He/she has been eating and drinking anyway, following the other twos example i think,

Valkyrie
Sorry to hear the news - but Egg Lou said that she didn't think Kitty would make it - hence temporary name of Squirt - she also had the same tummy problem. Eggy bathed it regularly and look at the little madam now (not Eggy I hasten to add ). Crouches on command and prolific layer - we wondered if she would lay at all, but sometimes little miracles happen.
