I couldn't believe that midwife, they used to be like that when I did my training 25years ago, if I was that mother I would have clocked her one. All that shouting at the woman. How patronising and inappropriate to the father. I'd have clocked him too, can you believe he told her off for not getting on with the labour Then the midwife told him what a great help he had been Why? because he told her when she was getting contractions. Cooks Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) I didn't see it, but when I was in labour with my second child I did tell the midwife she was rubbish and to send me in a decent one... I blame the pain. edited to add.. It was at the midwife crossover where you get a new shift, in the end my lovely first midwife stayed over her shift with me cos she didn't want to leave me as I was errrrrmmm very close. Valkyrie Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 I told them "right that's it I've had enough!" and they rushed for the doc - I think the tone of voice sounded like - don't mess with me any MORE! That was the first time round - forceps because boy's neck and arm was on a bungee rope and bouncing back in while I was trying to get him out. Second time "you're not ready yet - you're still laughing" followed by "hold on hold on hold on!!!!!" I had the last laugh. POP went the little weasel. When my brother arrived I wasn't even allowed in to see my mum - I might have had germs (but my dad and grandparents were allowed - I guess they were germ free). I'd only been in the hospital about 10 minutes when she decided to break my waters, cue intense contractions. I asked for pain relief and she gave it to me. Hubby mentioned that Rocky was on the tv later that night and she told him that if I hadn't had the pain relief I could have given birth quicker and he could have got home to watch it He was joking, she wasn't, miserable woman, really wasn't a nice experience at all. The first programme had a husband who I would have killed for being a pratt, but his wife put up with him pretty well. Then there was one with a young girl who was hysterical, I think that teaching relaxation techniques to pregnant women is so important. Pain is a lot easier to manage if you go with it rather than fight it. I put down my good labours to the good relaxation classes I did with my first. All that shouting at the woman. She had an awful manner with the mother yet obviously knew her stuff and spoke normally and very professionally after the birth with other members fo the team. She needs to learn how to talk to mothers like adults instead of 2 year olds. I would have hated to have her as my midwife. Aunty e Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 I just can't watch it - it reminds me too much of how I hated the way the midwives and doctors talked over my head as though I couldn't hear them. It's not a terrible memory for me, but it does make me a little cross occasionally. I still can't believe that I didn't swear at all, although I did shout at a nurse when I first got to hospital because she grabbed my legs during a contraction and I didn't want to be touched and I told OH off a couple of times - once for suggesting ordering a pizza and another for pointing out that if I hurried up, he could make last orders. As Mog was delivered with a pair of forceps at a quarter to midnight, I think we can all see that was never going to happen. So tempted to stay at home next time, it was all so much nicer in my living room. For a start, I didn't feel like I was a bovine star of All Creatures Great and Small. I did worry at one point if the midwife was going to get to me in time and the second midwife only made it with minutes to spare. I don't know if they still have to have 2 in attendence these days. The midwife in this programme was a bit too bossy and patronising, but sometimes you do need someone to keep you on track and encourage you. I think the husband was a control freak who was frustrated at not being in control. I think he had his wife's best interests at heart really though. It is weird for the men. I lost my first child at 26 weeks and suffered badly at the hands of a couldn't care less consultant who told me to stop complaining and get on with having another one. So I paid for the next one; consultant, that is Relaxation classes? I hope they watch the programme to see just how insensitive they have been. The chap in the first week who was laughing at his wife when she was having contractions (who also had her 17 year old son in the room with them) And last nights one having a go at her for not deciding to opt for a c-sect. I was shouting at the telly saying punch him, go over there and punch him! You'll feel so much better. But she was brilliant and totally ignored all he was saying and concentrated on herself I did feel sorry for him at the end though when the baby wasn't breathing and he looked so helpless. The midwife was ok. I think she was very in tune to what the woman wanted and how disappointed she was with how her first baby was born. That said, I don't think I'd have been happy with her when I was in labour. OSP - I like your style! If I ever had to go through labour again (not blinking likely, but never say never) that's how I want to do it Shame you had to have such a horrible thing to happen first of all though. Lewis Posted February 25, 2010 Share Posted February 25, 2010 I watched the 1st and 3rd one ... felt really sorry for the young mom (Lisa?) who had to have a c-section and then couldn't hold her baby She came across really well and was really open - said what she was really thinking. Didn't know what was going to happen with the baby yesterday either Our neighbour's baby had a few problems when he was born and the dad was watching ... not for on here really though That stupid man and his son though!
