Griffin
After a few days deliberation Tiger Lily has finally decided to go broody. She's firmly wedged into the most prized nest box which has infuriated a lot of ladies Robin even tried laying on top of her. Robin had muddy feet so now Tiger, a white Silkie, has muddy go-faster stripes Tomorrow night she'll be moved to my broody coop and on Saturday will be given some Pekin & bantam frizzle eggs The world needs more Hob"Ooops, word censored!"s Tiger utterly adores being a mummy and I'm so looking forward to seeing her happy little face as her determination is rewarded

Griffin
The eggs have arrived I can highly recommend Dragon Poultry, they really are the best packaged eggs I've ever seen, well since the last superbly packaged eggs I had from them Each egg is wrapped in strips of kitchen towel so that it cannot wobble in the polybox. The 6 eggs are then held down further by sticky tape over them in the box. I know a lot of eggs are literally knocked infertile because they rattle around in the polyboxes but hopefully not these guys, they'll not have moved a millimetre in the box! I've got 6 frizzles, 2 black Pekins, 2 wheaton Pekins, 1 white Pekin & 1 partridge Pekin. Tiger will have around 7 or 8 eggs, the rest will go in the incubator. After candling the first time I hope to get all the eggs under Tiger because I'll remove any clear ones. In the unlikely event that they're all fertile I'll be encouraging broodiness from my other bantams

In the unlikely event that they're all fertile I'll be encouraging broodiness from my other bantams That is where 12 of mine came from, certainly well packed - from them I got a silkie, frizzle, Plymouth Rock, RIR, Cream Legbar hatched/fertile (5/12), but RIR died at a week old. As mine were early in the season I put the poorer fertility down to that as the packing was good (none of my pekins were fertile ) Tracy
Griffin
That's really why I've started off with 12 eggs. I know that frizzles fertility isn't spectacular at the best of times and most Pekins only got going a few weeks ago. A friend breeds Pekins and she's only got a handful of chicks so far. I'll be happy with 50%. Tigers coop is all ready I'll put the lady herself in it tonight. I've put a little shallow trug in there. I thought it'd make an ideal nest filled with Easibed. It's the perfect size for her and it'll stop eggs rolling away. We'll see if it works!
Griffin
Tiger is now in her coop with 8 eggs. She didn't move a muscle when I plonked her in there last night and this morning she's like a zombie in her blue trug It's brilliant, it's the perfect size for her. I've got another one and I'll see if I can cut a section out of the side so that the chicks can get in and out.
Griffin
Poor shell quality in a lot of the eggs. I'm not expecting great things. Tiger is now on 4 Pekins and 3 Frizzles. The rest were clear. It's easy to see clears but although there is something going on in the others, in a few of the eggs I can't see quite what. The two black Pekins were clear and to be honest I'm not bothered because we already have a black Pekin. I definitely saw the partridge Pekin move And as if one broody wasn't enough now Nelly blue Silkie is too. I've tried turfing her out the nest box, removed eggs quickly but she'll sit on fresh air. If she wants to be a mum who am I to stand in her way? I'm collecting some freebie Silver Laced Wyandotte eggs from my friend who breeds them this weekend. Nelly is quite a small Silkie so I'll only put 4 eggs under her. He's getting near enough 100% fertility from his eggs so I think that'll do for her. She's a first time mum and I don't want to give her too many.

Redwing
Thats lovely Griffin, fingers crossed for some chicks I'm suffering with poor shells in my barred dottes, a lot have been clear too, the Pekins are going great guns though, every egg I have set from them has been fertile likewise the table birds and silver laced dottes
Griffin
I sneaked out just now to admire the night sky and while out there just had to candle Tigers eggs All 7 are still doing well One has a much larger air sac than the others but the little chick was in there waving at me so fingers crossed. Pleeeeeeeease let one of the Wheaten Pekins be a girl I'm so proud of Tiger I could burst! She really is one of the bestest chickens on earth

Griffin
They're on their way! When I put everyone to bed I looked in on Tiger and I could tell by the look on her face something was happening There was a Frizzle egg poking out from under her and I could hear it talking I can't wait to get out there in the morning and see if any have hatched yet
