I offered eggs to two people - well, three.

 

One said "No thanks I don't want any nasty diseases off your chickens"

 

Other said " No thanks I think it is a bit icky getting eggs from a pet chicken"

 

And MY SISTER said "I can't eat free range eggs because I am frightened there might be something horrible inside like a chick" Attemps to explain there was NO POSSIBILITY of that (outside a chicken immaculate conception which is unlikely) failed. (We have no cockerels)

 

Why are some people so stupid? Anyone else encountered this reaction? No wonder battery farmers continue to get away with it

 

Others have been more than delighted to get eggs and say how much nicer they are.

How weird! But some people seem to be repulsed by anything that doesn't come out of a tin or packet, it's why we're turning into a nation of unfit fatties!

Unbelievable! My friends are queueing up for eggs, I have to do an alphabetical rota so they all get a turn.

 

I'm really amazed - if they ever saw/tasted an egg from a garden hen, they would never want to buy eggs again, everyone tells me that the yolks are darker yellow and the taste is lovely, and my hens don't even free range that often. Keep asking around, you'll surely find someone to take them.

I must admit I was a bit taken aback when one of my neighbours to whom I give free eggs complained that they hadn't been cleaned....I keep the nestboxes clean but you know there's always a bit of poo which escapes your notice which they can find and lay on, particularly over the wet part of this winter/spring. I gave him a lecture on egg shell porosity, and will wheel out my other neighbour (vet) in support if necessary.

How breathtakingly (is that a word?) stupid! Mind you, I wrote several weeks ago how a colleague of my OH refused the blue eggs. He couldn't explain why he didn't want them, other than they 'freaked' his wife out. I thought that was bad enough, but outright rejection of lovely fresh eggs is just plain ignorant.

I coudn't give eggs away at work last year. I got, "the yolks are too orange", "the shells are too hard" or, "they have too much taste" I often took in a box of eggs to work and left them on the staff room table for someone to take home, after 3 days they would still be sitting there and I would take them back home.

 

I have just started to sell my eggs at work and can't keep up with the demand. Maybe this is because for the last year I have been banging on at work about battery eggs and the conditions the Hens are kept in. Seems I have finally got through to some people or they are sick and tried of hearing me go on and on and on

 

I am now selling 5 boxes of eggs a week. This week I have orders for 7 boxes. Good job I have 4 more chickens on order and the egg money will help towards paying for them.

i have a friend with the hump as I have my own hens now and 2 are laying so we have enough for our needs. she comes up to school with a box trying to sell - but cant - shes awash with eggs. i wont be selling mine as with 3 chucks we should have enough for our needs. if it doesnt have a s/b date on it people are sooo stupid

Wow I've never thought of people turning down our eggs; we usually have lots of people wanting half a dozen at the same time! I would've thought everyone would love the idea of fresh, free-range eggs!

 

Saying that, my Grandad never wants our blue/green eggs because he associates them with duck eggs that gave people salmonella. I have tried to explain to him many times that they are definitely chicken eggs and that we don't have any ducks hidden anywhere.

I do thinkt that some people are put off by the fact that they actually taste and that they are so yellow. I stayed at a b&b last year and the egg that came with breakfast was so pale it made me feel sick and I couldn't touch it

Must admit we always have been able to give eggs away when we have surplus and in fact my son took 6 in for his teacher as a present for her birthday !

I offered some to my friends mum, but she didn't want any. She's very finicky so I assume that she thinks supermarket-brought eggs are in some way safer to eat.

My mother in law is a farmers wife and she won't take our blue eggs -she says it's not natural! I've also been asked if the blue eggs are blue inside! I've only had one person so far refuse my offer of eggs as she was worried about catching something! I do have a friend though who thinks that if you have a cockeral you can't eat the eggs because they've been fertilised. It's no wonder the nation has a problem with obesity!

thats really shocked me ,my hens cant lay enough for how many people want off me lol .

im working my way through my kids nursary ,they have a list of whos turn it is for the next box ,i went in today and the manager asked if i have 4 spare yet lol.maybe i could get a part chop on my fees lol

Our friends are queuing up for our girls eggs. At the moment we only have Nugget laying, but I think Blanche will start soon. I gave my friends Mum 3 little eggs in a little basket with straw for her birthday. My friend and her Mum and Dad had one each and can't wait for the next lot. French people LOVE free range eggs cos everyone has chickens round here. They really appreciate how much better quality they are.

I don't know why I am surprised that people can be so thick. Obsessed with processed food and cleanliness (if only they knew the truth) I bet if you gave them a cabbage from your garden they would complain about the dirt on it.

Can you give your eggs to a local food bank? Although, knowing the stupid rules that are around today they probably wouldn't take them.

Boil them up and give them back to your chickens.

People are sooo stupid. I wont be offering mine to anyone as I think we will have just enough for us and I bake every week.

I only have 5 laying girls so dont have heaps to sell however I do now have 2 people that want a box each week, well actually they said as many boxes as I can manage but I have to have some for my family.. :lol: so thats £2 a week that goes towards their feed bill. (if I remember to put it in the tin)

 

It's strange how people get funny ideas about aggs, and pet chickens.... straaaannnngeeee

We are over run with eggs at the moment. Need to drive over to my Mum & Dads as Dad sells them at work. Left a box for our neighbours down the lane and he popped over with the box back, tied with ribbon, filled with Lindor and Thorntons eggs! "we'll buy 6 a week if you have any spare"!

 

Some people are funny about eggs. My SIL won't take them as they freak her out. Mind you, she doesn't like home grown tomatoes either, as they 'taste funny'. What?? I think they taste like tomatoes should do, not ripened on the ship for 3 weeks!

I had another go at my sister yesterday. She said "I like my eggs from a box" ...... mind you this is the woman who didnt taste yogurt until she was about 40 because she thought it sounded yuk..
