Hope Cumbrian forumites

It's pretty scary tbh. I heard two police cars go by over an hour ago and wondered what on earth was going on - nothing, absolutely nothing, ever happens here. The helicopter has been flying too.

Local radio is reporting that he's abandoned his car in Boot (Eskdale, the next valley to us) and is now on foot. What's really worrying is that it's half term and Eskdale is a popular valley for campers and walkers. They'll be hundreds of families out enjoying the weather who will have no idea what's going on. Please let them catch him before he does any more harm.

I only heard this on the 5 pm news bulletin. Such a waste. Those poor poor people :( I also thought about all the omleteers who live in the area and just hope you and yours are all okay.

OSH - hope your hubby is okay. I don't envy him having to look for such grim things

There are people who have been reported missing by their families. Hubby just phoned to say he will probably be out all night. Just awful.

I imagine the waiting will be unbearable for the families. Here's hoping everyone turns up safe and sound and that Mr OSH gets home at a reasonable hour.

DH came home at 1 am and out again at 4 but at least he got home. The team members with search dogs have kipped in the vehicles.

The problem is that they don't know exactly what route this guy took so they have been searching undergrowth for 20 metres each side of all the roads. A daunting task.

My heart goes out to all those families. It's as if West Cumbria has come in for a huge hammering in the last few months.

The trouble is that there is no gun law ever that could prevent such a random massacre.

yes, there is a lot in the media about the need to reform the gun law. Unfortunately these freek situations will happen whether there is gun law or not. What turmoil he must have been in to get himself into this situation.

I was so hurt by yesterdays news. What ever makes a human being do such a horrendous thing? Innocent lives taken.

Hubby & myself have just said that the gun law needs re assessing. Once you have a gun license, you have it. I think it needs looking at every year - look at your criminal record ( if you have one), have a psychiatric check etc.

My brother in law has a gun license on his farm & we are always saying there is an accident waiting to happen there. He forgets to lock the gun(s) away in the cabinet & leaves them standing in the utility room. We are disgusted by this, especially as he has a 10 month old baby who is nearly crawling! I can just see the poor love losing an eye or worse, as I think they have air triggers don't they?

It makes me shudder - oh & they leave the door unlocked too! It only takes a mad man or someone with a grudge to walk in the house. Totally irresponsible!

My heart really truly goes out to Cumbria. Not just those involved, but all who live there - it will be in their minds forever.

This is getting too much like the streets of America.
