patsylabrador
You've set me off again. I can't even understand why 11 year olds should have a prom.

poachedegg
Not all primaries have proms - ours certainly doesn't!
The Dogmother
Rosie's didn't, they had a passing out ceremony though where they get to ring the old school bell. I can't imagine why on earth they'd want a prom at that age. I had to explain to Rosie about proms - they are new to me too, being an American import and after my time. Goosey Lucy
So glad it's not just me. The boys' current school doesn't have a specific Leaver's party but they do get to spend the profits the tuck shop made during the year. last year they had a day trip and takeaway pizzas. At Easter the Juniors made sandwiches, crispy cakes and hot cross buns for the school then we all sat together in the Hall for a tea party. Brilliant. Even my Secondary school didn't have a prom, just an end of term disco where the school hall was festooned with 3 rolls of streamers, the lights were turned off and the teachers circulated making sure no-one was smoking in the loos. Oh Happy Days
Seagazer
Oh good grief. Trouble is how do you top that for the 'proper' prom? DD had a prom when she left 6th form, they all looked beautiful and split the cost of a stretch limo by about 12 of them. Totally new on me then too. I just remember smiling as I left the school and that was it. No party nothing. Times have certainly changed.
bronze
TO me a prom is where you watch classical music while standing up

bluekarin
That is plain ridiculous. When my ED left, and this will be happening for DS in a few weeks, they had a leavers assembly in the local church where they all put a star with their name on onto a board (I cried lots ). They also did a year 6 production which was excellent. And the final bash was a BBQ and games on the field. On the last day they all signed each others school sweatshirts. meezers
DS11 leaves primary school this year, the year 6s will get to go to the secretarys house for the afternoon, they will have a BBQ and a go in her hot tub - they can't wait Proms for primary school kids , why ?
