Perseids meteor shower 12th Aug

Recommended Posts

Now we thought we saw two, but i am beginning to doubt what I saw - definitely not planes, we do have a flight path over us and these were moving much too fast - plain white stars moving quite quickly, but no tails so not quite what I expected. What do they actually look like? :?

I sat out with some whiskey and John Butler on the ipod, and saw about 15 until I got too cold.

That isn't many but we are on the holding pattern area for Heathrow and what with light flashes from the tube, car headlights and street lighting I think that was a good count.

My husband joined me and we both agreed it was lovely to sit there star gazing anyway and to see the meteors was very exciting.

Did Bluekarin get to watch them at Stonehenge, that would have been magical.

Snowy, they look like long thin streaks, like you'd expect comets to look, only they never do!

I saw a few satellites (probably what you saw Snowy) and a handful of Perseids at about 10.50pm from the attic window, they came whizzing straight past Cassiopeia and headed towards The Bear.. one was really stunning. :D that's in the town centre too!

Thanks Clare, I wasn't sure what they would look like! Probably was satellites - they went a lot faster than planes though, but they were both on the same trajectory which made me suspicious  It was a glorious night - we don't get much light pollution here (as long as we don't look towards Leicester!) and just watching the stars was amazing. I really must learn some names! :?

The daughters & I were up from 11.30 until 12.15 last night, wrapped in a multitude of blankets, laying on our sunbeds & having a great time watching the display :P

We saw loads & loads of them & the sky was perfectly clear.

One was HUGE, & travelled quite slowly.....awesome!&

we went outside at 11.15pm when we remembered and lay on our backs on the lawn. We only saw 4 one of which was very big, the others tiny. It was lovely if a bit cold and ED came in with a slug on her back :vom::lol: We had a real giggle I am sure that our neighbour thought that we had been on the sauce, but were just high on life 8)

We were beaten by light cloud that swirled in very eerily after about half an hour, but at least we saw some.

I like your style 8) I think I would be too loud to watch something like this with earphones in

And, unfortunately no. It was too cloudy and hubby was too tired

You have to get up early or stay up incredibly late for the ISS at the moment, you can check the time it passes your house here http://spaceflight1.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/region.cgi?country=United_Kingdom&region=England

It was jolly cold last night! I saw a couple around 11pm but it was far too cold and cloudy to bother hanging around. I might try again later.
