Does anyone keep CD's these days?

Recommended Posts

I keep the ones where I like the majority of the CD, older CDs that I got before the age of downloading and if I missed the singles that I liked, I tend to sell on Music Magpie, yes you get very little (minimum 30 p maximum £3 per CD) but I have some that I have not listened to in maybe 10 years so I might as well get something for them. I usually put them on my I Pod before selling them.

Another one who likes to read the insets and see what she's listening to. Haven't got around to buying an MP3 player yet ( not even sure if that is what I need - I think I've reached the tech phobic age :o:lol: ) but it is on my list of things to buy when I can afford it ( see the 'what have you given up thread )

I still have lots of CDs.....and vinyl.........and cassettes..... :D

I like to see the CDs and be able to look at the inserts.

So do we...along with the ipod.

I've kept all my CDs, there's no computer in my bedroom to play downloads from. I too like the pictures and the inserts, especially if they have the lyrics written on them, then I'll sing along!

When we had the kitchen done in 2008 there was no place for the ancient CD player anymore. As we are both iPod junkies these days, even in the car, we boxed them up for a bit and left them in the spare room. Then, last year we decided that was silly as we no longer had anything to play them on so stuck our entire CD collection on Ebay (individually not as a job lot). It was really cathartic and, while most went for 99p plus p &P, we were amazed what some of them went for - there was a Lloyd Cole one which Hubby picked out of a bargain bin in HMV in the 1990s which went for about £30!

Now, if we get a CD for Christmas or birthday, we simply download it and put it straight on Ebay.

Hey I've still got my records upstairs in the loft  even though we don't have anything to play them on. Lots of albums and singles as well as a few EPs :D

We've still got CDs as well although we've all got ipods/iphones now so they don't really get used. When we have a party we just plug in one of the ipods and use that now. I can't think of the last time we bought a CD.

Despite the (justified) criticisms of CDs related to loss of information related to vinyl, CDs still hold far more information than MP3s. Therefore, given sufficient quality of CD player, it's still possible to get greater richness of detail and intonation from your silver discs than the files on your iPod. Of course, that also relies on then sending that signal through a decent amplifier and speakers or the difference is largely unnoticeable, but since we don't have a telly, we've been able to justify investing more in our hi-fi.

No doubt I will at some point get round to extending the hi-fi's inputs, but for the moment CD is still very much used in my house.

Agree with the quality thing Major.

Not so much for "dancing around the house waving a duster and a vacuum" kind of music (a very valid and useful music genre!), but certainly for some classical music. I can listen to some stuff on my Ipod, and it is fine - but play the CD on the decent hi-fi (with good speakers cables and speakers) and it sounds a whole lot better.
