kevb8ll
I joined the forum a few weeks ago, but we finally have our girls. I've attached some pictures of them and theor house. Before you shout at me, they are ex-bats and they are a bit scrawny. I promise we will look after them! Where they will be living: There is a run too, but we haven't put it out yet. alet_chicken
Aww they are adorable. They will have such wonderful adventures in your garden! (Windfall apples is a particular favourite of my lot, which includes ex-batts.) As for their feathers, I expect you will start seeing growth on the really bald patches soon. Their combs should become a bit redder too in the coming weeks. They will soon pick up a bit of weight too, but they'll always be on the slim side (at least in my experience). Chicken shack
Poor things, they must be thrilled with their new home . How are you stopping the foxes from getting to them I can't see a fence?
poachedegg
Well done for rescuing them - they are going to love your garden.
beach chick
they look as if they are making themselves very much at home, and they will LOVE your garden and scritting away in all those leaves and eating the windfalls. whether your garden will look the same afterwards is another issue!! the bradley bunch
congrats on giving a home to these amazing & very deserving little girls you will have lots of fun with them as their little characters begin to shine through i promise in about a month you should really be seeing some feather growth on their backs, however under their bums seems to take a bit longer! we've had our ex-bats for just over 5 months now and they are just staring to get some tufts of feathers below their bottoms. each girl will be completely different from the next also, so if one has a full back of feathers whilst the other has nothing this isn't normally anything to worry about or anything to do with you, the same applies to the condition of their combs. so long as they are bright eyed, eating & drinking, have clean bottoms, and aren't standing still for long periods, then they will be happy & healthy good luck & enjoy the next few months as their loveable (but i warn you slightly mischevious!) characters really begin to blossom! kevb8ll
Thank you so much for everyone's kind comments. This is really my wife's project, but we've all got involved! We haven't decided on names, but as we have 4 kids, we are all going to name 1 each. Mine is going to be Jalfeezi! (My wife has said that she is keeping power of veto on names, so I may have to think of another - will report when they are named!)
