Woodburner is coming! Yay!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited, just been and booked the woodburner. It will be here in less than 3 weeks  I also asked for a storm cowl on my bedroom chimney pot (on the same stack), so the rain, wind, snow, bird food etc. doesn't come down, and they are happy to fit that too.

Also made friends with a couple who bought a house over the road and are ripping out the loft joists, so guess who got 9 x 14 foot long Victorian joists to burn 8) Is over 100 years seasoned enough?

So right now I'm ridiculously thrilled and excited, woohoo!

Think I need a lie down now

Same here Olly - the best thing we've bought for the house.

All very exciting Claire - I'm sure the wood will be seasoned enough :D

E-on had to cut the trees down outside our gate and asked if he could leave the wood! - they left enough wood for a year, about £300 worth if we had to buy it  We also have a massive pile of willow from when the farmer pollarded the trees in the next field - not the best wood for fires but it burns perfectly well in our woodburner, we're using some from last year.

Our woodburner is quite frankly the only thing I like about my Hovel  we have one with a back boiler too which is so fantastic its just not funny, I've never known water so hot! When we redevelop the house I am going to have one double-sided, one with a back boiler and one Ironheart cooker/stove and we have all our own wood

And where are the pictures? Which one have you ordered? I'm so pleased we had ours fitted - it's taken a while to get the hang of, I still haven't papered the chimney breast or oiled the slate hearth but it looks amazing and the extra warmth is brilliant. We've still got a shed full of wood that burns beautifully which we bought for £100. We used the wood burner for a few months at the beginning of the year and for a month now and we've barely touched the woodpile. And I'm having three trees lopped down from our garden soon, so we can chuck that in the second shed for next year!

 Sorry!

My part prepared fireplace pic is on my new blog ***here*** also linky under avatar, and I have ordered the Lovenholm, single door with black handle, which can be seen ***here*** I chose it as where I'm getting it from actually sell this stove at a very good price and it is wide and shallow, which suits my fireplace, and my logs!

That looks lovely Claire :D

We live in a 1980's house which had a really ugly stone fire place and a useless gas fire in it, fortunately we had a chimney. We had the fire place taken out and the hole opened up in the plain wall like yours, but we don't have the lovely bricks. It is by far the best thing that we have done for this house, so warm and cosy in the winter. We are just starting our 4th winter with ours, it is something positive to look forward to about winter. :D

Thanks for the comments folks!

The bricks are actually really rough ones, some are very cracked and the soot covered ones are especially bad. The chap who did the testing thought the opening was lovely though, as do I. Just plain and simple (like me  ) as befits a terraced house. I had a right strop when the pointing dried as it is grey, and looked like blue tak in the gaps, so I managed to get hold of some cheap cement stain in buff, which turns out to be bright yellow ochre  I suppose now it looks like several people have been re-pointing over the years

I have wallpaper now and am hoping to do that at the weekend, when the paint has dried.

Looks fabulous! My fireplace is similar, but the inside was rendered so I painted it dark grey. Shame to paint over bricks though, I think a bit of soot, staining etc just adds character - makes it look as if it's been there a long time. I hope you love your stove as much as I love mine!

Thanks!

It looks even better now as I've finished the wallpapering and will hopefully be getting a new carpet this week and maybe a couple of chairs too :D Found a linky to the wallpaper, it's the second one down, aubergine floral, with caramel stems on cream background.

I've had the woodburner lit a couple of times, building up to a bigger fire to set the paint. I can't light it at the mo as it might dry to wallpaper to quick  I'll be having another fire tomorrow though :D
