When do you put your.. Christmas decks up?

Recommended Posts

How funny you asked.

We normally put them up the first week of December and its only that early as we have a son. However we've had a terrible time recently and my husband said this week he was going to put the icicle lights along the house just to bring some cheer. Given that we live in the middle of nowhere though it will only be us that sees them so we won't look overly daft :)

There is a house down the road from us that puts theirs up on the 1st November...with loads of lights outside...we have slightly cringed at this in the past..but it has become a bit of a thing now to look out for...and this weekend I will pop down and take photos to send to me DD who is away from home so that she feels included in our christmas preparations this year. Actually the child in me loves the way it lights up the winter evenings even though the adult hates the way that Christmas is now the province of "Retail " . Our tree and indoor decs never happen before the 20th December..although we always had an advent calendar (with pockets) and an advent candle when the children were smaller.

As close to xmas as is possible,i like christmas, I do, but i sing in choirs church etc....so am always else where leading to christmas and all the extra services, that mine get a bit left behind, and as i am on my own i spend lots of time with the grand children....so i'm not in my home much to appreciate things until nearer the new year.

Second week in December usually.

Looking for a skinny tree or a wall tree this year, no room for usual tree because we have an extra bit of furniture since last year :(

We suffer from lack of space too, last year I snapped some branches off my conifer hedge, made some in to a bunch and hung those on the wall and put the rest in a vase and hung decorations off both - it looked really good :D

I put my tree up as close to Christmas Eve as possible, and leave it up until twelfth night. I also put up icicle lights outside, hanging off the bay window guttering, and I usually like those up for 1st December. I have them on a timer so they are lit when I leave for work in the morning and again when I get home. They look lovely and welcoming :D

I used to put my tree up a couple of days before Christmas, then it went to the weekend before. Now I have children it is about 2 weeks before. I like a real tree too - you can't beat the smell and they last so well nowadays too.

I like to decorate it and get excited about Christmas but wouldn't do it earlier as I would soon get sick to death of the clutter Christmas brings. Definitely taken down by 6th January.

The tree ( a real one which we go and choose from a plantation nr Cheltenham) goes up the weekend before, usually (though it may be later this year as I think only one child will be back from uni at that point)...I'll put the wreath on the door and dot a few other bits about earlier in Advent if I have a chance but vicaring gets even more full on than usual in December so it's all a bit nip and tuck really.

I so LOVE Christmas...miss the days before ordination when I could spend ages making everything look pretty and enjoy candlelit evenings and time to listen to Christmas music and.......

Yeah, well. It's rather different now. High anxiety...Manic rush to fit things in. But lots of wonderful stuff along the way......
