Taking piercing a tad too far - ouch

Recommended Posts

I am fighting the piercing battle with my youngest daughter, whi is 16 & has merrily informed me that now she is 16 she can get whatever piercing she likes

Happily she is a sensilbe(ish) girl & I hope will chat with me first.

Her latest is a Monroe, which is a facial piercing that gives the impression if Marilyns beauty spot. Its actually quite cute.

i saw a lad this morning with his ear lobes stretched  , both lobes were stretched to about 2inches, he was only about 18, i know it is the "thing" at the moment, but he will probably have to pay for surgery in the future to get it put back to somewhere near normal (whatever that is nowadays  )

im old too :(

oh, well, at least i have little ears

The ear streching thing really disgusts me :vom: Just looking at it makes me want to be sisk. Usually I'm not squamish at that sort of thing, but that... :vom:

It's not helped by the fact that this 'friend' posts pictures of her stretched ears, red raw and bleeding on Facebook :vom: I mean, why would you do that!? :eh:

I know that they're her ears and she can do what she likes blah blha blah, but really, 10/20/30/40/50 years down the line, I'm sure she'll regret having it done.

How do they do that and what is it that will be in her face?

I think in 20 years time there are going to be a lot of OAP's with budgies swinging in their ears after the flesh tunnels of their youth!!

Its a little silver ball or a little white gem ,or for school a clear plastic retainer.

Here is a picture.......this was very much the lesser of several evils.

She either wanted her eyebrow done, which I don't like,or snakebites, which is a pair of piercings under the bottom lip

I worked with someone a couple of weeks ago with gazillions of piercings. Her boyfriend is qualified to do them and is now training to do 'body mods' I had to ask what body mods were  Yep it's the forked tongue, pointy ears etc etc. Why on earth???????? Apparently to split the tongue you need to keep a gob full of ice for at least six hours to freeze the tongue beforehand to minimise blood loss. She did have a piercing that I did quite like though, don't know it's official title, it was a tiny diamond stud above her cheek bone on the side of her head about an inch from her eye.

Wow I feel a little ill after reading all that. Also a bit worried about what my 6 and 8 year old will want to do to themselves when they are older. Oh well I will have to accept that it's there choice ( when they are 25+)

The ear stretching thing has been around a while, I remember people with it when I was in school (I'm 30 now).

That back piercing thing just looks horrid and painful :vom:

I had my nose pierced at the festival I met my husband at. I fainted after having it done. I took it out about 8 years ago, but you can still see where it was. My mum cried her eyes out when I got home from the festival & she found out what I'd done. I was 17 at the time

Being a sensible person these days, my main concern is what will happen if they catch it on something :?

A friend once had her tummy button done when it was fashionable - it turned septic and she came to ask my advice... I bundled her in the car and took her to A&E

A dog walking acquaintance is really into the tattoos and piercings lark, I find them fascinating but won't be getting any done. In my day it was all rough boys, motorbikes, punk stuff and all night raves.

I found Cleo wearing lobe stretchers a couple of months ago, luckily I caught her early and confiscated them.

I hate stretched lobes.

She also has her nose done, which looks nice, her tummy button, and a fair few ear Piercings.

I got a tragus piercing last summer, and I love it,but I don't think I will be getting anything else done in a hurry.

The upper cheek piercing is called an anti eyebrow Piercing,I think

I have to say I'm not keen on any piercings apart from in the ear. A friend has a hoop about half way up her ear that I like.

My ES has pierced ears and he bought some new studs home the other day and at first glance I thought they were ear stretchers - I was about to shout at him when he assured me that they were just studs. He said he hated the stretched ear thing too, phew!

I'm with the 'yuck' brigade. ears only here, and luckily so far my girls seem to have the same view (keeping everything crossed tho! )

our next door neighbour has both nipples pierced, and insists in walking around shirtless in summer. it's very hard to have a conversation about how the veg are doing with someone whose chest is pierced... I make very strong eye contact throughout these conversations.

i've seen some in funny places during nursing career and wont elaborate in case you are eating breakfast  I feel very old as no idea what 1/2 of them are - Cinnamon your daughter is so pretty - I hope she doesnt go too mad on facial piercings as shame to spoil such a lovely attractive face. ES wants a tattoo - have told him if he insists I will make sure hes vaccinated against Hepatitis first and trawl round to find a reputable person. He will fund it himself. OH very anti it.

My fear for most of these (relatively) young people is how much they will HATE their piercings/tattoos etc when they "grow up". Some piercings can presumably be removed without leaving much of a scar, but stretched ear lobes and tattoos would not be so easy to deal with? As I said before, I am clearly just too old to understand ...

That's my thought too, Bramble.

I don't think piercings are so bad, as they can be taken out with very little to show afterwards. Tattoos and stretched lobes are there for life!

I used to horse ride with a very pretty girl who had this hideous skull tattoo covering the whole of her upper arm. All well and good all the time you're into that kind of stuff, but I couldn't help feeling she was going to regret it in the future. Yes they can be laser removed, but it's so costly and leaves scarring.

Thankfully I'm far too much of a wimp to even consider getting a tattoo.
