Thanks again everyone. Nurse told him before I got there it didn't look like he'd had a heart attack but when I was there a Doctor said he had had one He's been moved to a ward now (but not cardio) and is waiting to be seen by a cardiologist which they've said will probably be tomorrow. So, all in the air still

I am NO expert at all, but it took them three days to finally decide for sure that my Dad had had his heart attack. Yes he had, no he hadn't, most unsatisfactory when all you want is answers but it can take more than one symptom together to decide is the impression I got.

 

Hope he stays well, my Dad had a bypass but once he'd got that out of the way he was fighting fit and back to normal

Having been in and out of hospital with my ex over the years for a serious long term problem, I feel your pain (I have hunted down consultants in their offices before and I have always worked for the NHS) However you do need to be quite firm about diagnosis and treatment - if you are not getting the answers then insist to speak to the cardiologist or ward consultant. This will make you unpopular but you and your husband are not in hospital to make best friends with the staff but to get better and get the treatment we are all entitled to

Scarlettohara, I'll bear that in mind definately. Made myself unpopular on the CDU with the sister yesterday as they hadn't put the red band on him for penicillan allergy in Primary Care when they sent him up Am hoping taht work will let me go up for visiting in the afternoon tomorrow so I can rattle cages then if need be otherwise I suppose it will be too late at evening visiting.

 

I'm not going tonight as DD and her boyfriend are plus inlaws plus he can use his mobile.

I was always polite but did not take any rubbish I also gave chocs as a thank you present when we left - this always makes staff feel mean for previously talking about you behind your back ! We do have some of the best medical professionals however - you just need to make yourself heard

I hope that you get some resolution today, and that your OH gets the treatment that he needs.

 

As a family we have had some experience of the NHS at the sharp end and so long as you speak up for yourself, the treatment is very good.

Update of sorts

 

They're still not too sure whether he has had a heart attack or not (new blood test could be too sensitive I think he said)but somethings obviously not right so he's having an angiogram on Monday or Tuesday and angioplasty if needed. Am assuming this will be done there and then but not 100% sure as it's what DH has told me over the phone. It'll also depend on what they find He's on beta blockers as well as all the other stuff now.

 

He did want to come home and then go back but was told it would be a stupid idea incase he did have another "do" and it was fatal so am relieved that they wouldn't let him come out.

 

Didn't get chance to go up this afternoon so it's visting tonight. His Mum and Dad (both mid 80's) have been though and he said he's now worn out as his Mum insisted on whispering and his Dad couldn't hear half of what was being said-lol

I can only second what Scarlettohara says, be VERY firm, but polite and friendly. When my Dad was in hospital I had been known to sort of "hide" and then ambush the consultant before his ward rounds. It was the only way to get to speak to anyone, my Dad couldn't speak for himself, so I had to do it for him.

I'm sorry he has to stay in for the weekend, but I think it's probably for the best, just to be on the safe side - it sounds like he's getting plenty of visitors!!!!

Thanks everyone again DH is feeling fine but fed up. No doctors on today apart from emergencies so fingers crossed he's done tomorrow. I've just read him the riot act before as he said he was going to ask about coming home and going back as an out patient. He was also bought a TV card on Saturday but the flaming TV's had gone down in the afternoon and still aren't back on. There are no notices on any of the "pay" machines which I think is appalling. The bloke in the bed next to him is a riot though and is keeping DH amused. Think of a shameless character and you wouldn't be far wrong - lol
