Alis girls
I was sitting in the garden and got up to get another cuppa and felt a sharp jab in my upper inner arm. I can only sumise I squashed a wasp which might have landed on my top. Bathed it in vinegar and took an antihistamine. feel very sorry for my self as its sore - wondered if it will get me out the cooking if I milk if a bit Bloomin wasps - I am sure it was a wasp as there are some buzzing round OH's fig tree. Stupid thing - shouldnt land on a ladies dress. Hope its dead.
Reikiranf
Ouch you poor thing! I hate wasps as my DS is allergic to their stings & they are such a blooming nuisance.
The Dogmother
Ouch! I was thinking just this morning that I hadn't seen many wasps yet this year - we were inundated last year due to a nest at the bottom of the garden - when I saw a large queen at lunchtime. Alis girls
Swear - tell me about - the air was blue. i think I read somewhere swearing helps with pain. I can say that on Friday I crushed my little finger in the pool table at the Youth group I help out at - as its a Christain group didnt feel able to swear so just sucked my finger and wailed pathetically " it hurts...." but I was thinking believe me. Hope you are ok
snowberry
Every year for the last 12 years I've seen a wasp on Christmas day; & in houses 400 miles apart...spooky! I've only been stung once & it was pure agony, I wonderr if being heavily pregnant didn't help? You'd have thought I was in full labour, the sounds I was making... chicken bark
I feel so lucky that I've not been stung. (Touching lots of wood now ). I don't know what purpose wasps serve. We had a nest near our living room window last Summer but could never work out exactly wear until I came to refelt the log stores and found the queen between the wood and the felt. Hope you feel better soon.
Olly
They eat aphids and caterpillars, so if you're a gardener, wasps are good! If you have a wasp's nest near the house though, it's best destroyed or someone will get stung - wasps hang around looking for food. Their sting is different to that of a bee, because they eat live prey and so they sting it to paralyse it before eating. Afraid the 'acid for wasps, alkaline for bees' thing is not supported by research, but an anti-histamine will help.
egglicious
We have the dreaded yellow-jackets here in the northwest US. Couple years ago there was a big nest in one of our trees and we didn't realize it... well, a neighbor kid kicked our tree and got several wasps to the face. It was awful. There is a nest outside as I speak under the roof. And I see them buzzing around our garden every friggin' day.
beach chick
eeek, wish I hadnt read this! I am terrified of wasps, but I try really hard to be grown up and mature about it in front of the girls... when I was little I was sent out of class for being cheeky. standing outside the classroom, a wasp flew up my skirt; teacher came out to reprimand me, saw me in floods of tears and was overcome with guilt that she'd been nasty. til I said "I'm not crying because I got sent out, I'm crying because a wasp flew up my skirt"
Seagazer
I've never been stung before so I never am. DD bent over the boot of the car once to get something out and screamed saying she'd been stabbed by something (good at am drams ) - she'd been stung by a wasp. Quick dash to the nearest Boots for anti-histamine. Not long after we moved to this house I paid a visit to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Switched the light on and saw lots of wasps flying around the room (very, very small bathroom). Got OH up and he opened the door and swore. We sprayed a load of fly spray in and shut the door. In the morning there were about 50 dead wasps in there. We had to get a man to come and deal with the nest that was in the roof above the bathroom. Yuck, they were really horrible.
