keyhole kate Posted December 13, 2011 Share Posted December 13, 2011 DH myself and DIL attended the citations and medal ceremony at RAF Odiham where DS was presented with the OSM Afghanistan afterwards the Station Commander came round introduced himself and thanked us for coming he asked DS about his deployment, Christmas leave and whether he had siblings he shared a joke with son about him having three sisters he was very down to earth and told us about his own family it was a lovely day. patsylabrador Posted December 14, 2011 Share Posted December 14, 2011 That's marvellous. It's one of those events when you spend the day with a slightly twisted face because you're trying not to cry. That must have been a lovely day and you must have been so proud. The only time we came close to being talked to was at a ceremony where my son had done some gadgety thing to his boots which were starting to peel. There he was meeting us afterwards looking splendid in his uniform and medals and peeling boots. A sergeant 'suggested' he did something!
