AlisonH
This is the first winter for me and my 2 chickens - I've had them since June, and up to now they have been happy to go out in all weathers but - the arrival of the snow = unhappy chickens. The poor things have spent the last 2 days just standing and looking at it all. I tried to cheer them up with a warm mix of layers pellets and Sunday dinner left over veg which they wolfed down but they refused to dabble their toes in anything white and icy! Does anyone's chickens like the snow or is it just mine??
chuckmum6
No they hate it and are very grumpy about it!
chickenopolis
Ours like eating it - but no in general they hate it - it restricts their grass munching!
poppy ben grace
My pekins hate it! They wont come out of their covered area at all bless them. The big girls dont seem to mind as much but still look a bit miffed about it all!
auntielizzie
This is also Betty and Bessie's first winter and no, they do not like the snow Yesterday they refused to come out of the run; they did eat some snow, but they were not prepared to walk on it They did venture out a little bit today, but only just outside the door - I think they'll be much happier when its gone
sparkysmum
Same here. Our winters are long & horrible and my ladies just hate it, even my Scots dumpies who are reasonably hardy. Roll on the summer & eggs. Alli x
percy049
NO! 2 of them do eat it, but they generally aren't happy about walking about, and are very wary of coming out the house in the morning. At first it was something different, but they've soon got fed up!
Millie-Annie
My new ex-batts looked a bit surprised and couldn't work out why, when you stand on it your feet disappear Marigold hates it and refuses to walk on it. If I want her moving, I have to carry her and Tallulah just shouts, but then Tallulah shouts anyway
jasperaliceuk
Mine haven't had a chance to find out as I'm currently worming them and haven't free ranged them. Tomorrow will be their last day of confinement! Sue
gongladosh
Mine refuse to walk on it and welcomed it the other morning with absolute silence... The last time it snowed they came out on the morning, had a poo, then went straight back to bed in disgust...
migsy
Mine don't seem to care. I thought they hadn't noticed it actually!
superkitty
Mine hate it (their first winter too). Had to carry them to the WIR today and yesterday morning because they just wouldnt come out of the Eglu! Carried them to bed last night (they were standing on the woodchip in the dark, looking forlorn ) but today Constance got brave and ventured tentatively onto it after Muggins here had dug them a little path. Then Augusta got freaked out about being left behind and did a massive jump after her...then realised she was in the snow and just stood there going 'waaaagh! Waaagh!' until I picked her up again. Not very hardy, my girls
coco
mine hate it. Last year I had to clear a path for them from the run to under the hedge where they spent all day.
Luvachicken
This is my girls first snow too and they hated it. They all came out and ate and then disappeared into their house upstairs for most of the day. I don't if it was darker than normal, snow always makes everything so much brighter, but thats what they did for our 2 days of snow. It is almost gone now and they are looking much more normal

Harrietshens
Mine won't come out of the run! The only one who eventually ventured out is our 'baby' cream legbar and she was frightened when she stood on the snow and her legs kept dropping down through it. Princess Leia
Having dug our Eglu out of a snow drift on Sunday morning our two came out looking very confused. I know that's the normal expression for chickens, but it was very obvious that they hadn't a clue what was going on- this is their first winter. After a few minutes going in and out of the door looking like they were suffering with a bad case of OCD, they did eventually venture out. Scramble then jumped up on top of the Eglu and spend a few moments surveying the garden, before doing an impersonation of the Madagascar penguins ("well this sucks....") and going back in again. Apart from coming out for warm porridge, they haven't ventured far since. Still laying, though.

Luvachicken
Mine seem to like it today. They seem to be enjoying eating it and aren't hiding inside like the other day. Silly things.
