Cinnamon
Just got back from seeing the latest blockbuster movie 'The Hunger Games' & have come to tell you all how fantastic it is,as there are a few fans of the books on here It is very true to the book ...there are a few changes, but nothing massive, plus they show a lot of The Games control room & how the Gamemakers can influence what happens to the Tributes, which is very clever. The lead actors are all very good, although I thought the guy who plays Gale looks a little too old (very cute, however). Woody Harrelson & Stanley Tucci are great in particular. Lenny Kravitz was also brill, & is perfectly cast as Cinna. They have done The Games sequences in a very clever way, using a lot of hand held camera cation, which sort of adds to the atmosphere of it all, without showing too much of the horror of what is actually taking place there. Personally,I wouldn't have minded a bit more realism & will buy the directors cut of the DVD when it comes out,as a fair amount of footage was lost to the censor, which they needed to do to get the 12 rating. There is a bit of the next book tagged on to the end as well, which actually makes sense in the film....also one real jump out of your seat moment I really enjoyed it & I am sure that anyone who likes the books will do too ,although it is happily a movie which doesn't need the book to have been read to understand what it going on,I think. Go see it - you won't regret it
chickencam
My DS bought the first book last weekend and has nearly finished it. On Monday we had a Book People catalogue in the post and they have all 3 books for £4.99 he paid £6 for his, we decided to buy them because the other 2 want to read them too, so someone can start on the other first book and will be ready for the second one by the time DS has finished it hopefully. They are planning a sibling cinema trip over the Easter break. I might give them a go myself too.
surfer_chicken
I've finished the trilogy and I really loved them. I preferred the second and third book so I'd recommend reading them!Going to see the film next Saturday
LuckyChickenLover-
I read the first book a while ago, I still need to get around to reading the other two. I'm hopefully going to see the film some time this week with my friends, I can't wait!
superkitty
Going to see it tomorrow night, very excited because I LOVE the books. Really glad to hear that it lives up to expectations
Janepie33
Would just like to add that I too thought the film was brilliant. DD left book 1 lying around and as she had raved about it I decided to give it a go. LOVED it! Am now half way through the 2nd book on my Kindle and will download the 3rd very soon. I was a bit put off the series at first because I thought the book were written by Stefanie Meyer (the Twilight lady) and I found her books intensely irritating!Very glad I persevered. Bantambabe
Took middle son to see this on Thurs as the other two were at birthday parties. He's read the books, but I haven't. I enjoyed the story etc but the handheld camera was just awful - made me feel quite nauseous (I tend to be quite sensitive to flickering lights etc) and I just wanted to shout "Keep the b*******y thing still so I can see what's happening!!" I realise that it was all part of the disorientating nature of the film - but it was a bit too much. DS loved it though
LuckyChickenLover-
I realise that it was all part of the disorientating nature of the film - but it was a bit too much. I think they had to do that as it was going to be rated a 15 because there was so much gore. The producers wanted it to be a 12a, so they added in loads of camera shake so that you couldn't see what was going in.
Cinnamon
I thought it was really clever, how they did that, but it took my eyes a while to adjust to the amount of movement on the screen. Paul Greengrass uses the same method a lot - the Bourne movies he made are very similar.
Chickendoodle
Loved it. I have read the books and I went with a friend who hadn't read them. We both enjoyed it. Katniss was just how I imagined her and I too really liked the way the gamemakers were shown controlling everything
percy049
That bit made everyone in the cinema jump! I went to see it today in Norwich and it was amazing. I'll read the books as soon as I've finished my books for English Literature!
LuckyChickenLover-
I saw it for the third time today Spoiler: (Highlight it to read ) Am I the only one that was kinda annoyed at how the muttations were shown? I think that everyone who read the books expected wolves, not boxer dog things. Also, in the books it was mentioned that the muttations were the dead tributes, which wasn't mentioned at all in the movie.
Janepie33
I saw it for the third time today Totally agree with you!! And I thought I was bad enough seeing it for the 2nd time today!
chickencam
All three of my brood have seen this now and all agreed that it was great.

ilovechickens
Loved it-read the books a while ago and thought they were fab, tried to get ED to read them but she refused-but after a trip to the flicks with her, she is now completely obsessed with the story, she read all read books in three days (during the hols!) and so we went and saw it again yesterday. Must say I preferred it the second time round. How hot is Lenny Kravitz!?!

patsylabrador
Finally I got round to watching the film. Maybe I might have felt differently if I'd read the book but I found it disturbing. All I could see was children being brutalized to slay each other which made me think of boy soldiers in Africa. The thought of parents sending their children to 'war' with almost no hope, especially the little ones, of seeing them again or being able to protect them really upset me. I know it's fiction but these things happen. I felt quite low after it. There were other things I saw but I won't go on.
percy049
Suzanne (the author) wrote about these things to make them look bad, condemning violence. To larger extent also criticising the government
patsylabrador
That's more or less what I was thinking, especially Governments creating wars for self-promotion. It was a quality film but I didn't find it enjoyable. I thought that maybe I was thinking too much but from what you say it sounds like the author was making serious points. (and I have to say I wish the Olympics hadn't called the volunteers "Gamesmakers" it made them sound so sinister in the light of this!)
