kinsk
My Mum had a recall a few years ago and it turned out they just hadn't got a clear enough image on the first one. Best wishes xx
soapdragon
I know its easy for me to say but try not to panic. I have had several freinds who have been recalled and, in all cases, things were fine - one showed up nothing at all and the other three were benign (really lots of breast lumps are.) I was recalled last year (have to go every year even tho I'm 'only' 47 as have DCIS) but, after much angst on my part - so I do know exactly how you feel - , it turned out to be scarring from previous surgery. Keep us posted - will send you good vibes on Thursday.
sadietoo
I really feel for you Anne. This happened to me at my last mammogram, and waiting to go back for the next one was probably the worst fortnight of my life.... Fortunately mine turned out to be a simple cyst....but the experience was such that I don't think I'll go for my next routine check up at all Everything crossed for you, as others have already said there are loads of reason for a recall xxxx
Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear that . Like others have said though, it's often just down to an inconclusive scan. Fingers crossed for you .

I don't know what happened to make you feel like this but speaking as a lady whose had quite a few mammograms (all fibrous lumps and cysts) its really not a good idea. I've had some nurses that have been really rough but also some that have been fantastic and I've not felt the mammogram at all.
sadietoo
Seagazer thank you for your comments, It wasn't the mammogram itself that upset me, that was fine, it was being recalled and then having to wait for the next check (and thankfully in my case the all clear)that I found so difficult to cope with, hence I absolutely sympathise with the position that Anne is in now . As an aside, and not wishing to hijack this thread, my own opinion is also that I don't completely buy in to the Mammograms are a fantastic thing theory. A report said if 2000 woman were screened over 10 year, one woman's life would be saved by detecting cancer, but 200 woman would have a false positive result and of those 10 women would have unnecessary mastectomies (sp) radiation or chemotherapy treatment with all the attendant risks of those........and others would have invasive biopsies quite unnecessarily. I have other friends who also ignore their appointments..and whilst I understand this could be described as reckless, they are happy in their ignorance and we all make sure to check our breasts regularly and would have any lumps or bumps investigated. abwsco
Thanks for your good wishes everyone. Think it's 15 years (could even be longer but memory going with age )since I started having them due to being able to get onto the family history screening programme run by Christies. There is an area of "denseness" showing but am hoping that it's just precautionary that I'm back for another one. I hit 50 in November so because of the NHS screening I'm now down to go back to Genesis in 18 months instead of 12 months next time. Sadie, can understand your views about having another one as my younger sister refuses to sign up for the screening at all. We all must self examine as well. Never thought to ask how long I would have to wait for results from this coming Thursday but I do know a consultant will be there. Did you have a long wait Sadie? Anyway, I am going to try and go with my usual approach of not thinking about it at all until Thursday morning.
Looney
Not knowing / waiting is so tough. My Mum had a recall on her last scan and it turned out to be all fine. Will be thinking of you x

Did you have a long wait Sadie? Well fortunately, they gave me another mammogram and then I had to go in and see the consultant . It was so clearly a cyst that I didn't have to have any further investigations and so I got my result there and then. I really hope you have the same experience. I will be thinking of you.xxx
The Dogmother
Fingers crossed for you Anne; you're right about self-examination; I have always been careful after losing a friend to breast cancer, and found a lump myself a few years back. Luckily it was just a fatty lump and has since gone.

bluekarin
I too hope all goes well for your recall. Better to safe than sorry, especially when things can be so easily treated nowadays. I can imagine how worried you have been though.
Daphne
I'm sorry to hear your news, I can really empathise about the anxiety of the wait. Although I've never had a recall I do have to go for a mammogram and/or ultrasound every 6 months now based on my results from various exams earlier this year. Each time I have seen a consultant, then had a mammogram, then an ultrasound (with the waiting about this all takes around an hour and a half), then about 30 minutes after the last exam I have received my results then and there (actually both times the ultrasound lady has given me the all clear before seeing the consultant) so hopefully you won't have long to wait either. Snowy
Oh Anne, I'm another who can sympathise. I was also called back and the wait for the retest was awful Luckily they do seem to process things much more quickly for a follow up - I had a few minutes wait after the xray, then they gave me the results. Mine was all clear as well, just an area of shadow caused by a poor view the first time around
