Housebound....

Recommended Posts

I have torn my calf muscle badly & am now housebound for a week to 10 days, with the instructions not to walk on it unless vital,or it will take much longer to heal.

One day in & I am already out on my mind with boredom!

How can I keep my mind occupied & off of the pain for such a stretch of time?

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Sounds an ideal opportunity to start a crochet/knitting project? Get lots of books in (call in some favours from friends, lots of people are decluttering at the moment so someone must be chucking out magazines or books? Or (a project I always promise myself I'll do in the winter months) sort out photographs and put a collage together.

My photos are all on the computer & pretty organised already (I am quite an organised person)

I DO have a ball of pretty wool & some knitting needles somewhere - I bought them a year or so ago, meaning to learn......

I also have loaded my Kindle with books to read, have a 1000 piece jigsaw ready which I have been meaning to do,& the Game of Thrones box set to get through.

Luckily I persuaded work to deliver to me tomorrow,so that is one less thing to contend with,& have got easy peasy recipes to cook for supper, which I am sure even The Husband could do :lol:

My sister & brand new baby niece are also going to come & visit 8)

I did it by just getting out of bed slightly awkwardly

I felt & heard my calf go 'pop' - it was excruciating,& not all that uncommon according to the internet.

Ouch, poor you :( . I did something similar a few years ago, stretched behind the sofa to pick something up and my calf went "twang". My whole leg turned beetroot and I ended up going to A&E as it looked so scary  . It healed relatively quickly so I hope yours does too  .

Sounds like you've got plenty to do - hope you don't get too bored!

Paint your nails & give yourself a nice sort of facial or pamper treatment at home. Or have someone come & do it for you .

You could do an online language course - Japanese?

Online shopping for upcoming birthdays?

For me it would be stitching & crochet whilst listening to lovely music. A bit of internet shopping & googling of stuff I'd like to know more about - plus a nice magazine.

Wishing you a speedy but safe recovery.

Ouch that does sound painful. I used to find cross stitch a good way to pass time as it takes more concentration than knitting or crocheting, least that is my experience of it. I once spent 7yrs being housebound although I was able to move around the house thankfully. Hope you feel better soon :D

Sounds like a ruptured Gastroc'.... you have my sympathy as I've done both in the past. I was told to keep moving on mine (with it strapped) to maintain a full range of movement, otherwise there's a risk of it 'healing short'.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand housebound for another week.

I am getting seriously hacked off now

Got to have the leg scanned next week, just to make certain that it will heal properly without the need for surgery.

Taping lots of movies that I always meant to have watched on Sky,so thats keeping me occupied a bit, & also having a tidy up (while seated!) & sorting through my recipe files.

I also just might be expecting a new little addition to the household next weekend - more news on this to follow 8):P

I am sorry to hear that you are housebound for another week, how frustrating

But this sounds exciting, looking forward to hearing more about this :D

Take care. Make sure you don't over do it and delay healing

I tore my front thigh muscle last year just by crouching down and just after we got the new puppy. Perfect timing! I begged for physio as soon as they would allow it and pestered for the quickest appointment possible. I think I only had three appointments and did all the things they told me and it healed in no time.

Well, the hospital have signed me off for a further week, after my scan,& my calf is now black & blue (it has taken ages to bruise),but I am getting about a bit more now,so I might try to go in next week.

Then again, its going to snow & my new arrival will be here this weekend..................
