the vets - update

Recommended Posts

i have a bird which is probably due to pass away soon she is 3 years old and has not laid for 6 months she eats and drinks okay but her body language shows signs of old age the problem is we go away next month and i dont want my chicken sitter to deal with the problem of a dead hen and was wondering what people thought of me taking her to the vet and having her pts also any idea of what vets charge these days just to put a hen to sleep we had to look after my chicken sitters dog while they were away and ran a bill up of £460 at the vets and £110 of that was just the consultation fee

:(:(:(:?

just to let you know rose passed away in her sleep on saturday morning .I woke up on saturday and went out to check on them and she was curled up with her head under her wing and was not moving and was stiff as a board i went in to tell the missus who shed a tear as it is are first loss and wont be the last but we will get use to it

:(:(:(:(:(

I've been charged around £12 I think but it was a few years ago.

In prinicple I think you are right to consider this - if your hen is showing signs of old age then the last thing you want is for the chicken-sitter to have to deal with a sudden illness/death, and it might be better all round to do the deed before she enters her final decline.

It was £20 for my little Pie last year and handled very nicely if you know what I mean . He did make a big fuss about making sure she was buried very deep due to the drugs used and other animals getting to her, I did feel telling me 4 times was OTT but I know some vets wont let you take them home and there was no way I was leaving her.

Hope things go ok for you whatever you decide xx
