Who do you think will be the twelfth Dr Who?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit of a Dr Who fan, grew up on Tom Baker, lusted after David Tennant and generally enjoyed the escapism of the show. So now the 11th Dr, Matt Smith is going, who do you think would make a good 12th Dr, rumours have had Helen Mirren mentioned!! Too old in my view, but a woman would be change!?!?

isn't 12 the limit for regenerations?

I'm sure that was stated in the programme many years ago, when no one had an inkling that it would carry on,

I'm guessing it was mentioned when either Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker was the Doctor, as that's when I watched it as a child.

Or has one of the most recent Doctors (since Chris Eccleston) managed to fix that?

What about Peter Dinklage? He has a wicked turn of phrase.

Just had a debate with ES about the regenerations - he seems to think there was an episode of Sarah Jane Adventures where the DR said he could regenerate 507 times?

I thought he had just been given all of River Song's remaining ones when she saved him in the Hitler episode - she'd only used one at that stage.

I'm not really that keen on having a woman for the Doctor. I don't have a problem with the Doctor being male, sometimes the gender equality thing just gets in the way. Don't get me wrong, It won't bother me if the next one is female, but it should be about the right actor for the role.

Wouldn't surprise me if it is a woman this time. The BBC (or, specifically Radio 4) has gone overboard recently, after the latest mini scandal about how few female experts were used for interviews. Now it seems that every interview has to have one of the slots taken by a femal expert. That's fine when they are articulate, expert, and easy to listen to... but sometimes they aren't (and some of the women are so shrill it makes me want to turn off the radio).

I do think it needs to be someone who will keep the role from descending into something ridiculous,. Matt Smith has been very good, although sometimes he's been on the edge of being a bit too clownish (almost turning it back into a kids programme).

I don't think I'd watch the series if the doctor became a woman, that'd be too great a break from his usual character, the doctor to me is a guy, and there is really no need to change him into a girl. To me River Song is a good female presence in the story, and it'd be very awkward if the doctor was a woman yet married to River, who's obviously married him as a guy, not a same sex partner!!

I think that a female doctor would be awkward because they often travel to the past and, until recently, the term doctor was pretty much an exclusively male title. I think that having a female companion who is not hired primarily for eye candy is good enough for political gender correctness. I liked Donna as a companion, but I know a lot of the male viewers, especially younger ones, were not fans.
