The Dogmother
Do you have this near you? There are loads around here, the only criteria seems to be that they have to be made mostly of straw. I was out in Oxhill at the weekend and had to google for images when I got back as some of them were really brilliant. Even a chicken one! Let's see your photos
WitchHazel
What fab scarecrows! i don't think we have anything near us...just off to gooogle.
Groovychook
We used to do this in our village every summer but not for the past five years or so. It's a shame, there used to be some fabulous creations! Loving the straw chicken
Daphne
Yes we have this every year in our market town - last year all proceeds went to a charity run by my neighbour I have to say, though, that I find them spooky. Ours can be made of anything, and they are mostly human figures. I find it quite alarming to zoom round a corner in the car in the middle of nowhere and come across some weird couple made of plastic drinks cartons with bonnets on, or a woman stuck up a tree with a bright pink balloon head and a grimace
bluekarin
I have seen something like this in a little village just outside Ringwood. The ideas people have are amazing
Charlottechicken
They go mad for scarecrows in a village not too many miles from me, Belbroughton. The scarecrow weekend this year is at the end of September. Last year the theme was "Olympics". The scarecrows were brilliant, we saw a Usain Bolt, in full Bolt pose, and a set of synchronised swimmers, complete with pool in a front garden! LolaLayla
They're great. Nothing like that round here.
Lavenders_Blue
Yes, we have that round here too, and have seen a scarecrow stuck under the car bonnet just like the photo you posted! It really made me jump when I drove past There is a scarecrow festival in the next village in a couple of weekends' time, I will have to go and take some photos. surfer_chicken
There's one near us that has been going on for years, they don't seem to have much restrictions on what the scarecrows need to be made out of though and the villagers go all out on it! The best one I saw was the summer the first transformers film came out and one house had a fully working transformer (made of mostly wood) which transformed from a little yellow car to a transformer and back again, brilliant! Edit: found a video of it

Angie
Yes we have scarecrow festivals, we have vampires, lego men, dr who, you name it and the villagers will have a go at making them . And we do scarecrow routes and treasure hunts with lots of prizes too.
charly1979
We have one in Farrington Gurney that coincides with village day (don't think it happened last year though) and I have noticed that Colyton in Devon also do one too, we love seeing them they are so creative
Valkyrie
They have one in Overton on the other side of Basingstoke - I did think that a couple of B'stoke weirdo's may have strayed and camped out in someone's garden but relieved to see they were scarecrows. Then they were popping up all over the place. Think it's great!
Plum
Fantastic none round here but I used to make extra patients when bored on duty at night so I'd be up for it
